I think I must have missed something:
  • A-class
  • 4 cylinder
  • Haldex
  • A-class
  • £32k+
Since when did 32k for an A-class become too cheap, AMG or otherwise? The only thing that makes me take any notice of this is the AMG badge and then only because they usually chuck out an epic engine which just happens to be wrapped in a nice-ish car. AMG or not, I can't get over the concept of "A-class", "4 cylinder", "at least £32k" and "desirable" in the same sentence.

I get the whole new vs old car thing, really I do. However it would need a massive quantity of kool aid for me to have £32k+ in my pocket and think "Yeah, now I can finally buy myself that A-class that I've always wanted".

If anyone needs me, I'll be back in the 1990s when AMG made sense.

I think that's quite cool actually. A much better looking car than that hideous 'sport coupe' which quite frankly loooked like a monkey f***ing a football

Whilst I agree, partly. I would never spend that sort of money on a new car like that, where else are you going to get 330bhp, 4WD, new, for £32k?
I'd be surprised if you got it here, tbh. Isn't an RS3 getting on for £40k? A Golf R ~£35k?

That is what I thought. Ok it has some poke, but it's a big lardy, ugly, bore mobile.

I'm going to patiently await a thorough video review from our hero test pilot; Chris Harris.

Just out of interest, is the engine mounted transverse, or longitudinally mounted ?

My mates AMG Merc is a supercharged V6, and it's a pretty fecking lovely car.
That they are, but as soon as Merc face lifted the model AMG made damn sure they could get the 55 lump in, hence later C55s.

It's not the lack of V8 I dislike, it's the fact that AMG is now almost entirely drained of brand values and history.

As an aside, the Red Pig (Rotsau?) was in last month's Merc dealer magazine. Except it's turned magically into the Red King or something stupid (iirc).

I'll agree that it's ugly, but then so are many BMWs. Looking at this car compared to it's rivals, it's really not that expensive.

It's like they took a 1 series and an A3 and then stuck a merc front on the result. It's not bad looking though, and that's high praise as I don't like most recent mercs. The grille mesh is odd though.

a couple of years ago i needed a runaround, was thinking smart car or similar, then i thought a class 190, after a bit of searching in the classifieds i found a an a210 evolution in silver, its got amg style interior and kit and is badged up amg, only seen a couple of other, both in silver. really not sure if they are all badged the same but the ones ive seen were, it looks great io think and honestly goes like stink and its torque steer and dodgy handling really does make me smile and i really would be sad to see it go, it only cost me £4200 with 55k on the clock and has been very reliable except for stupid immobiliser thingy incorporated in the starter motor ( now fixed), ive had 135mph on a private road and between 30mph and 90mph its very surprising

Well, bearing in mind how Mercs handle, A-class especially this might be very "interesting" car to drive.

It does puzzle me though why it's called A45. Has AMG abandoned calling their cars after capacity too?

This German-brand "is sort of like what you'd expect from that size engine so we'll stick that on the boot instead" badging policy has got to end.

It may end up being a great car but I am forever going to be disappointed that it's not an A-class with a 4.5 litre V8.
I have to admit i thought "Wow a 4.5 in an A class..I'm in!".

Then saw it was a 4 pot and thought..."I'm Oooot".

Looks better than the BMW imo BUT as mentioned before VERY Korean.

That's one of the most accurate descriptions I've yet heard.
