An unlikely combination
Discussion
My mum, in her wonderful eccentricity, has been watching top gear and has decided this driving round a track looks fun so has booked herself in for a day. Only thing is she is 69 and the car in question is a 27,000 mile, E reg, garaged from new XJS V12! More used to her pootling around the shops is this likely to explode and what can we do to prepare it in advance?

Your mums awesome...
You should have suggested a driving experience day - then she could have gone round with an instructor, in someone else's car... Was good fun when I did one in an AMV8...
I did suggest this but she wanted to take her own, said it would blow the cobwebs out! She is getting an instructor to take her round and show her the ropes. You should have suggested a driving experience day - then she could have gone round with an instructor, in someone else's car... I can only suggest making sure all her insurance is top notch and up to date then And make sure the cars had a recent service and most importantly an oil change... And tyres, make sure they've got air in...Good for her. Now tell her to cancel it because the Jag is, at best, going to cost a fortune and at worst, ruin a rapidly appreciating classic.
I'd look at experience days, ideally at Bedford Autodrome, where you can really push the car. At £800 for the full experience it's pricey, until you consider that £200 on the Jag for the day with about £80 for fuel and however much for a full engine rebuild could work out to be a hell of a lot more.
They do an M3 drive for £185 which includes 30minutes of driving - probably enough for the first time out

Not being mechanically minded, do cars get "shock" at a sudden change in driving style?!duckers26 said:

No, however a 25 year old coolant hold will more likely let go on track than at Tesco
It was serviced at the local Jaguar garage in Brentwood recently. For things like hoses would they normally check them over at the service? I drove the car tonight and I think it's going to be mad on a track with the roll it has!Zod said:
My next door neighbour is in his 70s. He got his racing licence in his retirement and bought a GTR a couple of years ago. He goes off for track days a couple of times a month.

She's always done things a bit differently. Not many other women on the open outcry trading floor of the London Metal Exchange in the 70s!(He's also former Chairman of Deutsche Morgan Grenfell)

Brilliantly mad, good luck to your mum OP.
Also running bets on the fuel consumption. Do you think single figures are a possibility?C
