Brilliantly mad, good luck to your mum OP.
Also running bets on the fuel consumption. Do you think single figures are a possibility?
Foot to the floor my XJ6 did 4mpg and I averaged about 13 with no track action whatsoever. So if it does more than 5 she isn't trying hard enough.

More of a probability, big heavy car with a V12, perfect recipe for poor fuel consumption.

But what a spectacle it will be pounding round a track!

this is awsome, good on her. The car will be knackered after it though unless it has been set up like this!

good luck.

What an amazing thread.

You need to video the build up, and chat to her about it - make a mini documentary. It's fantastic.

Good on her!

The brakes will almost certainly over-heat on the track which might mean an obvious coming off/crash. A car that behaves fine on the road might still over heat or blow a hose on the track even if they look fine when staring at them. You can find the raditor might be blocked in sections with debris (leaves and so on) without causing a great affect on the road.

She should go and do it but not in that car unless it has a good shake down first.

As long as she's sensible I don't see how its suddenly going to explode/crash/melt at the sight of a track. Also I doubt one track day is going to ruin it unless she stacks it, even if she does who cares its a car and she's having fun in it that's what counts.

I agree with this - she's not going to suddenly become Senna. Sure, it's way harder than road driving, but I doubt it'll break if it's lasted 25 years already.

I showed my mum some of the comments on here and while she wants to blow the cobwebs out she doesn't want to to break it! They have an RS6 which is now the preferred choice. How would these compare and is the RS6 a much better track car? Personally I quite fancy the idea of a 1987 Jag V12 screaming round the track (it's also a soft top!) as it will look brilliantly out of place.

Neither are ideal, treated with care they should be fine, though I would recommend using someone elses car!

Is the RS6 an Avant? Could she go round with a dog in the back?

Whilst it sounds like fun, I really wouldnt unless you are 110% sure the car is sound with a perfect cooling system, recent hoses, ignition consumables, had the convertible fuel tank issues sorted, the steering rack bushes issue sorted, ignition amplifier relocated out of the vee and so on.

Underbonnet temps on the v12 are ridiculous in normal operation. Add track use and anything thats not perfect will expire, and not necessarily quietly.

RS6 is probably a better idea - a great deal more capability in the chassis, and it has a roof.

She sounds like exactly the sort of older woman that I want to be when I grow up!

I'm sort of thinking that, even if it does go bang - what a way to go! My old MGF (185k on the clock), whilst not even on the same page, let alone in the same league, is definitely planning to go out in a blaze of glory one day - it's just that sort of bloody minded beast of a car. I rather like the thought that it will take its last breath blatting round a track, rather than on the side of the M25 in the rush hour!

Also - as a more mature woman, one would imagine that she isn't going to seriously rag it...Poised to stand corrected though!

I intend to turn my 540i Touring into a track slag when she is no use for the road anymore. I will source a polystyrene dog to bolt down to the rear load deck for comedic effect. The lady in question should definitely do this.

I'm no track star, but I would have thought there will be an element of comfort for her using a car she knows for her first experience. Of the two, I'd have thought the RS6 would be a better choice...

Top Mum, but as others have said, I'd give the car a good looking over before it ventures on track.

Just out of interest, when is she booked on it and which track did she go for?
It's at North Weald in Essex and not sure exactly when

Make sure you set up a Go-Pro in the car, and you are at the side of the track with a second video camera. This needs to be documented.
