Not sure why some are bashing Volvo and don't care. I drive a V70R AWD 300hp its very quick 5.9sec 0-60 or something. This I like and tuned by Polestar is even better, I've been there and spoken to some of the Polestar guys and they use Genetic Algorithms to tune the suspension, which require loads of processing power. Volvo are with them constantly and the guy from Volvo you usually see in some VCC videos is a legendary F1 Engine Designer, if you doubt for a second that this lot don't mean business then you've messed up. This isn't Nascar style engineering this is extreme race engineering and I don't doubt for a second that this thing doesn't share stuff with the S60 they're racing in the new Swedish Touring car league.

I for one would trade my V70R in for one instead of an M3. I get stick for my V70R just because its a "Volvo" which makes no sense and as soon as the engine is put into a Ford its oooo amazing. PFFFT.

And last thing on interiors. Pininfarina, Johnson Controls, and various others produce interiors for vehicles, Johnson Control produces interiors for Audi, Volvo and Ford also others... There is literally not alot of of difference other than choice of plastics and how cheap to go, at which point there really isn't as much difference between Volvo and Audi. Lastly I like the M3 e92 its awesome and makes a great sound, Though my V70R holds its price better............

A 3.9 second S60 with Haldex 4 and e-LSD ? Yes please it was fitted to the Saabs as XWD and if you've been in a skid pad you'll know it can pull stupid rates of G, I felt like I was in a washing machine.

O and Volvo build it ffs I want to trade my V70R in for it. Also the world Quality is generally subjective, Lexus has impecible build quality but every now and then you come across something stupid i.e a foot parking brake in a 450hp ISF......... wth toyota? As for the Germans BMW has some nice interiors I must admit, Mercedes is a bit meh and Audi hmmm reminds me of a Golf...... Volvo that much worse? I don't really agree with that at all.

S60 Polestar = Swedish GTR

All this interior quality talk is a bit off topic, but to add my observations, my 10 year old, 170,000 mile V70 is wearing it very well - there are no rattles, nothing falls off and the leather on the seats virtually unmarked.

Anyway, back to discussing big turbos...

No squeaks or rattles of my V50 T5 interior, 20,000 miles, coming up for 3 years old. It's The most comfortable car I've owned.

My wife seems pretty smitten with Volvo now, I'm sure I could sneak this one past her as ours will be gettting replaced soon. Please make it!

Lay-deez and Gent-el-men, the World has seen epic battles.

David vs Goliath, VHS vs Betamax, ZX Spectrum 48k vs Commodore 64, Spandau Ballet vs Duran Duran, Coke vs Pepsi, Butter vs Stork, Diana vs Camilla, Oasis vs Blur, WWF vs World of Sport.

And now... Pistonheads (the graveyard for cheapskates) presents, for the gazillionth rematch...

Press release about as yet undriven car vs Internet expert opinion from behind the desk at work by (mainly) men who drive a 2 litre repmobile.

FIGHT!!!!

I find this 3.9 0-60 really, REALLY hard to believe.

Also, straight line heroics being nice but not quite everything, will it handle?
If it wants to rival M3 it better handle like a dream.

What a pointless load of tripe being spouted here...
Again we have a car enthusiast website where all some people want to do is put down a company trying to improve their lot....
IF they build this car, it will only be the press and keyboard warriors who will pit it against the M3/RS4/C63.
Volvo will understand the fact that the big German 3 have that market sewn up...
However Jaguar and Lexus also understand that there is a different way, produce in less numbers, avoid the ubiquity and blandness of seeing one evry few miles on the M40, and tune your car to behave and deliver within a different set of parameters.
Think C6 vs 5 series...now clearly the BMW 5 outsold the Citreon, no-one epxected otherwise, but the big Citreon was, is and always will be held in higher regard for being different and offering comfort and individuality in a sector where M power badging and ruinous ride quality was accepted by the masses as 'better'.

As I said before, limted numbers, a beautiful, high performing halo such as this would do wonders for the S60 range, and Volvo as a whole...a small percentage rise in sales for Volvo can only be good to keep a manufacturer going that produce something alternative...light, airy, well designed, innovative cabins, distinctive exteriors, comfort...

Lets see if we can drop the "this car is better than that car" and the general hate and recognise the fact that the Swedes are still there and right now their shouting abotu a 500bhp manual AWD Q car.
I'm happy about it. smile

My D5 has just clicked 180K and has been far more reliable than any of the BMW's we run at work. I am seriously considering a V70R now my commute has dropped. Most people just dont 'see' Volvo's which is exactly what I like smile

My D5 is on 183K miles. No problems. There is one rattle though (when passengers get out and leave the seatbelt clip to rattle against the B pillar) getmecoatfrown

Exactly! I can't say 'If Hyundai made a RWD sports car...' anymore because, well, they do wink
That's a car that NEEDS to be released in the UK. Can't understand why they never have? They'd have cleaned up on sales, especially with the engine options it comes with.

I'd echo the 'who gives a fk if it's aimed at the M3' and 'it'd be a great Q-car' sentiments - it seems on the surface it would appeal to a slightly different market segment.

Although, I'd reckon it would (if produced) be more likely to appeal to potential buyers of cars like the Lexus ISF & Jag XFR, rather than the B8 RS4, C63 AMG or E9X M3 (which have different USPs and might be seen as more 'in-your-face', than the Volvo).

I'm also not understanding where the love for BMW interiors comes from... yes they are functional, hard-wearing and geared toward the driver, but they are boring as hell to look at and (in some cars) not worth the $$$ BMW charge...

Example: The E91 M3 DCT I was sitting in last week had a nice interior, but certainly not 60k's worth of nice.

I'd take the PoleStar in a more subtle shade and enjoy frightening more exotic metal. smile
