LMAO, that photo was taken when it was snowing in February this year.
It's currently insured under my Cousin's business insurance policy but won't be for long.
None of our business, but how does it get insured under your cousins business insurance and why can't it continue? It's currently insured under my Cousin's business insurance policy but won't be for long.
Were you named driver but no longer work for them?

And you parents let you buy this?! Mine wouldn't let me spend over £2.5k for my first car a few moons ago!
Sell it, get a 1.0 Micra, lay low for 3 years (no claims and 21) then try again.
Best of luck anyway
Mike
Cheapest Insurance is a mini 998 or 848 for an 18 year old, £1000 ? followed by the oldest 1.0 Micra. Expect to pay £1300 to £1800. Sell it, get a 1.0 Micra, lay low for 3 years (no claims and 21) then try again.

Just been looking to add a 19 year old to a policy when he comes home from university for the summer as a named driver, and interestingly adding him to a 1.6 mx5 will cost an extra £400 for 3 months, and adding him to a 1.8 cavalier will cost £450 for 3 months.
The OP needs to think about the lack of thought that got him to where he is. Get the quotes before you decide what car to buy.

I hope you are adding him to the mx5 in return for extra house errands Just been looking to add a 19 year old to a policy when he comes home from university for the summer as a named driver, and interestingly adding him to a 1.6 mx5 will cost an extra £400 for 3 months, and adding him to a 1.8 cavalier will cost £450 for 3 months.

So essentially you've bought the most expensive car you can afford, with no consideration to running costs.
Seems misguided but who are we to judge. It will be close to uninsurable for you unfortunately, there are no work arounds or loop holes. If there were, everyone on here would be using them. Your only two options are stump up the cash for insurance or get rid of the car.
The first option isn't that great even if you can scrape the cash together, as if anything goes wrong with it you'll not be able to fix it. Even basic things like tyres for a car like that will make your eyes water so I don't see how you will be able to enjoy it properly.
I also find it puzzling that an 18 year old would want a sensible family/load lugging car, but hey, we're all different.
Then again, you're only young once, and I doubt when you're on your deathbed you would think 'I sure am glad a spent all my cash on a middle of the range diesel 3 series estate instead of go great holidays with mates smashing the back doors off young women in club destinations.'

If its any help, 17/18/19 year old girls don't care what car you are driving, it has no influence on your ability to get laid....
Spend your cash on something cool AND insurable (plenty choose from), cool holidays, track days, karting and nights out.
Trust me.
Oh that is so untrue! Girls are very easily impressed, and you would quickly become 'James with the BMW' etcSpend your cash on something cool AND insurable (plenty choose from), cool holidays, track days, karting and nights out.

Not sure what the rush is at the tender age of 18 to join the ranks of middle aged, middle managers, lovely car but off the radar for 18 year olds, partially as insurance for young lads is over the top, even considering the risk but also as it is a fairly powerful, large car that will do 150 mph plus, perhaps some experience is a good thing. Sadly age is the defining factor, some 17 year olds are perfectly sensible good drivers and some right aggressive middle aged bell ends (like me ) drive cars like this, badly but its done on averages and us older chaps on average are safer.
Used to see our neighbors lad driving his dads 535D and he cant have been much older than at the time !

Errr... exactly.Plenty of cool cars around that are insurable. My point was that they won't care that it's a 525d m sport.
"James with the cool Campervan"
or
"James with the BMW" (316i in reality)
or
"James with the big car that we went to the festival in" (740/960/etc)
Blokes look at badges and capacity, girls dig the leather.

Bell, Hastings and elephant have always been cheap for me. Although like everyone else has already said the chances of getting a reasonable quote are very small.
Give it a few years and insurance will drop... Trust me!
If it was me I'd sell the 5 series and get something a bit more realistic, if you've got your heart set on a beemer than why not try a 4cylinder 318?

It is not the most unrealistic thing I have ever heard - I insured my E46 328i at 19 for a 3 figure sum, fully comp, in my name, with a licence for 2 and a bit years and one years NCD.
I am with Bell, and it will probably come down a bit more now that I am 20 as of a couple of weeks ago.
Another PHer has the same car as me at 20, and one more has a 330i Sport.

Ah the benefits of living in Scotch-shire. I've had to wait till 23 to get a 3 figure quote on my 330 and even then thats the 10 month policy which doesn't make so much sense any more. I am with Bell, and it will probably come down a bit more now that I am 20 as of a couple of weeks ago.

As a few people have said, it amazes me how many people don't look into insurance prices before buying a car, its always the first thing I do (although not for my current car...luckily it wasn't too much more!).
How much was the car? Madness for a first car (or at 18!). My first car was a 1.2 Punto. Cost me £1,000 fully comp at 18.

I had some slightly obscure cars when I was 18. The college car park was a sea of black Clios, Corsas and and Kas. I remember a herd of us standing gawping at a lad's brand new 52 plate MG ZR when they first came about, in utter amazement despite its lowly 1.4 K series and keep-fit windows! And then there was my car, a late E30 L plate BMW 318i Lux Touring (yes, I bought the estate out of choice!). I thought the BBS wheels and bright red paint looked cool. And in fairness so did my mates, nobody took the p*ss. Not really anyway. That lasted all of 6 months before I got horned up for an Alfa, so bought a 146ti 2.0 T.Spark, an even more peculiar choice for an 18 year old, I was never one to follow the crowd. And when was the last time you saw an Alfa 146? There was none around when I had mine, 9 years ago! The 2.0 litre aspect didn't work out as too much of a killer for me insurance wise, despite 150bhp it was after all was a 5 door "family hatch", a Ford Escort equivalent. Had I bought the 3 door hot hatch version of my car - the 145 Cloverleaf, I would have had to fork out an extra grand on top.
I digress. Unfortunately at 18, priorities are up the wall. Caution is thrown to the wind and tomorrow is another day. Against all odds and despite the sound advice from members here, the young gent in question will, at any cost, find a way of insuring his beloved 525. What an awesome car to smoke round in at 18. Then novelty will wear off, it will need a set of tires, the turbo will throw its hand in (let's face it, it'll never be off boost), the fun will come to an abrupt end as the pound signs rear their ugly heads. He will learn a costly yet valuable lesson.
Here's one I never forget: “Good judgment comes from experience, and often good experience comes from bad judgment"

Good on you for saving up and buying the car, but you probably should have looked at running costs beforehand. I know it's hard to accept but your best bet is to trade in for something a lot smaller, slower and cheaper to insure, then revisit the BMW a few years down the line.
I'm 22 now, but when I was turning 17, all my mates were getting insured on their parents' cars. Naturally I wanted to do the same, and my dad said as long as I paid the extra on the insurance, I could. However, he had a BMW X5, and only one company quoted, at nearly £80,000. So I lowered my sights, saved up and got a Fiat Seicento. Yes, I got the piss taken out of me at college by the lads, as this was when the Inbetweeners was on, but some of the girls thought it was 'cute'. But I had the last laugh with the lads, while most of them were paying £1500-2000 a year, at 17 on a Seicento I paid under £900. Same again when I got the Panda, one of the guys who I went to school with had just bought a TT but was raging at paying £3000 for insurance. He slated the Panda until I mentioned it was only £300 a year to insure.
A few years down the line, I can insure some tastier stuff for a lot less than I thought (still not a patch on my dad, who got a quote of £90 for his MG last year). But if you're wanting cheap insurance, then I'm afraid you're going to have to get shot of the 525, grab something cheap as chips, and build those NCBs. At 21/22, take a look at BMW quotes again, see what happens.

If you're going to spend that much on a car and insurance, then surely you could have got something interesting with it?
(I realise my current car choice is hypocritical in that aspect, I wanted a nippy load lugger that I can pile miles on for a few years. Fun will come when insurance premiums drop)
I'm firmly in the flog it and buy something sensible camp. Nobody else cares what car you have, my 1.2 corsa is not remembered for the make, model, engine size or anything, but the times me and mates had going all over the country, and down steep hills on the isle of wight with funny smelling brakes!

I am very lucky with insurance, but the other 2 members I mentioned are both from England. Had a look on your profile - that is a lovely 330 you have there
