I seem to recall the supercharged E55 had exactly the same engine as the SL55, but lower quoted figures. So theoretically quoting the lowest-recorded tested engine of the C63 but the average/best recorded output of the same engine for the 'premium' model would be good for sales/marketing and still technically honest. Seems a fairly German thing to do.
Possib;y, but there was more to it than that the exhaust was different amongst other little things.Gridl0k said:

I love the thought of this car, but it's just too thirsty when you do 35-40k a year.
I've never understood why MB apparently don't think there's enough demand in the UK for diesel AMG models. They've made them in the past but only LHD I think. Phooey said:

if i was any good at maths i'd work it out (£) for you Wills. Mine over 2000 miles has averaged 18.3. eekToo rich for me I'm oot!
Took delivery of mine last month. Just finishing running it in and have changed the oil and filter. Already impressed. Sedate and relaxed just cruising and quite quiet, then a noisy beast when you pop it into S+ or manual and push the revs up. Would like a bit more noise, but am told by local MB specialist that it will loosen up and get louder. Although heavy (M6/S4 Avant weight), it feels sure-footed and handles well. I'll wait another 1,000 miles before I rant it, when fully warmed up. Although I sourced mine direct from a local MB dealer, at £575/mth (3+35 and 10k miles/yr), you can now get them for well under £500/mth. Excess mileage is only 9p/mile + VAT, compared to about 26p for an M3, so for higher mileage users, it's very attractive. Fuel consumption is undoubtedly high, but I don't care, it's worth it (and tax deductable). I've averaged 19.8 MPG in my first 1,400 miles, but expect this average to drop! Seems well put together and feels modern and sporty inside (despite the old fashioned foot operated handbrake, or should that be re-named 'foot brake'). Huge luggage space for a coupe and the rear seats are split folding, meaning we can get 2 medium size dogs and full weekend-away kit in there too. Lots of expensive options are standard on the AMG, but I opted for only 2 more items; the blue tooth kit and heated screen/wipers, cost an additional £9/mth. Standard hi-fi is good quality and loud enough, but there's other stuff I want to hear in this car, makes me smile like a teenager everytime with that engine and brilliant gearbox. I've heard a fully spec'd Insignia or Passat are the same sort of cost per month, so MB are probably subsidising these to keep the factory busy, etc. Good plan, it sells more cars. There are some excellent value (per BHP and lb.ft) remaps out there, which can provide 'Black' levels of power/torque which also speed up the, already swift, gear changes, as in the 'Black'. So far, I'm very happy with my sporty 'tank'. I own other sports & kit cars, so I'm not pretending this is a race-car!
