Impossible to answer that without knowing why you didn't want a Boxster. smile
Not enough cabin space really. Having the option of squeezing people into the rear seats of the 911 is handy, albeit not very kind to those people smile

Because the Z4 is basically rubbish. Don't like anything about it (this is the short version of what could easily be a long rant).

What I did want was a Porsche, so with the above in mind, what would you have recommended?

A Maserati GranCabrio. It's the only worthy alternative to a 911 cab if you want four seats.

Very different sort of car, admittedly.

I googled this as a joke, not expecting to find a result.

On the strength of that, I would say you made the right choice.

I understood that. It was a bit tongue in cheek, given there is no alternative made by Porsche. .

I will add my opinion, because I have actually got one. I got it because everything I read thought it was such an improvement over the 997 (itself an amazing car!). Having now owned it for 2 moths I have too agree with most of the positive reports and tests I have read. So although seemingly in a tiny minority when copared with all the other topic comments, I will carry on using and really enjoying the car, especially if summer does ever turn up! smile

I've had 2 Boxsters, a 986 Tip followed by a 987 PDK. But have wanted a 911 for years, so now have my 1st: a 991 C2 Cab (PDK of course). My point is: if I'm spending £84K on a car it's got to be a 2 in 1 car: cosy coupe in the winter (and the 991 certainly is quiet and snug) and roof off roadster in the summer (when the sun bothers to appear). One thing that does annoy me with some cab owners is that they leave their windows up and draught excluders up complaining it's draughty! The car has to look good as well. When in town, windows down is my motto. Happy days.

As the proud owner of a new 911 cab , carrera s , I have to say the car is fantastic , replaced a ferrari california . Roof down sports plus on , exhaust on , electronic wind deflector deployed , fantastic , no shake no rattle just rock and roll , superbly built and engineered . Im not a porsche fanatic , just fanatical about cars , I will say it is a close call against the boxster , but a four seater cabrio ( just ) has a better open top feel , the rear bulkhead in the boxster just a little too close and , the cars new proportions and fabulous roof make this a world beater.

Congratulations. Enjoy the car. What colour did you go for?

the masser makes a nice noise , but had the privilege of going on a ferrari factory tour , more a lab than a factory .... to fill in time they then took us to the masser factory ,,,, scarily italian , mechanics in dirty overalls talking into mobile phones and the finishing end of the production run was an eye opener , rubber mallets to get the panel fit , fiat have ensured the masser isnt up to fezza even though they share many parts ...... theres a reason that a fezza has a 5 year warranty ........ the most disappointing thing about the porsche , they only have a 2 year warranty .....

See, now, us cab drivers are a uniquely lucky bunch.

We don't have to worry about forgetting to wear our Nomex underpants on the supermarket run.

We don't have people on the street pointing at us saying "There's one of those Captains of Industry/Powerfully Built Directors/Racing Drivers on their Day Off/Beautiful Svelte People driving their 911 Coupe, with it's manly, fixed racing car-type fixed roof"..

We get the joy of the wind blowing through our hair. Or combovers. Or across our scalps.

And for the most apart, because Porsches are men's cars, everyone realises that we cut men's hair. Wirey, bristlly hair, that blunts scissors, and jams clippers.

But the best of all? We get a real sense of speed with the roof down. We get to see the sky. Sometimes the stars. And we drive the car we want to drive. Not the car we think we should have to drive.
beautifully put smile

Just came across this thread from a couple of years ago. I've been loaned a 991 Carrera Cabrio with PDK for a week while I have some work done on my Boxster. It's clearly faster but as I've got a rather nice Griff 500 in the garage I'm not blown away by the performance. Other than that there's less boot space and 2 mini rear seats, not sure how much I'd use them whereas the boot space in the Boxster is useful. I'm taking it on a long drive tomorrow so we'll see how I get on with it. biggrin Anyway, nice courtesy car...

Personally, for a full convertible I find Boxster the preferable car.

Previously I'd have had a 911 as a coupe, but recently saw one of these - the new "Targa".

Wonderful thing IMO!! (Yes, the roof is electric.)

Well just back from 400 miles over the weekend in the 991 Carrera Cabrio and on the way on Saturday morning I thought, this is "nice", good fun. Arrived with a smile on may face... over the weekend I realised how easy it was to live with. Smashing drive home top down, realised that rather than nice I bonded with it and don't want to give it back on Wednesday. biggrin

That said, a 3.4 Boxster S with PDK will, presumably, have the same engine and £60k vs £90k. scratchchin

Lovetts Porsche Swindon lending me the 911 has obviously worked!
