I know the 3.0 is terrible, and I am wondering if these are much better? Also its a boxer still which means a pricey belt change and plugs?

I will pop and have a looksee tomorrow and for maybe a cheeky 2k it would be worth it.

random question chaps....on cars like these barges (E38s etc) what would you say would be "reasonable" running costs per year in terms of servicing and repairs (excluding tyres) if you pay a garage to do the work for you if doing approx 14k miles/year?

not sure what these cars usually cost to run so would be interesting to see what others expect to pay out or when you just have to say enough is enough. i suppose it varies greatly depending on how tidy you want to keep it, mind.

I reckon anything less than a bag a year every year and you're doing alright. That's averaging out at 250pa indy servicing and 750pa general anti-bork.

BMW 7 SERIES 750i L V12 4dr Auto Saloon 5.4 2000
108,150 miles
2000/ W 750 V12 Automatic, finished in Biarritz Blue with full Black Leather interior. Brand new MOT, All the usual 750 options, Electric heated seats front and rear, Xenon headlamps, TV & Telephone, Double glazed electric windows & door mirrors, full size alloy spare and original tool kit, Three keys with grey key, In good condition throughout *** Had a couple of phone calls regarding the price, suggesting its cheap therefore has something wrong with it. Please dont feel the price is a reflection of its condition, its priced as it is due to loosing my storage space and it needing to go by the end of the month. It ISNT a CAT C or write off etc ***. œ2,495
Fecking lovely. It isn't an iL though (which is why I like it).

Really? The 210 is better? That's the car almost entirely responsible for my general disdain of Mercedes as viable prospects (that and the contemporary CLK).

I also got to drive a couple of 300Cs (which somehow owe their basic DNA to the 210) recently, a diesel of some sort and a 5.7 "Hemi". Both were beyond awful in all respects, even setting aside the sub-Vauxhall Omega grade plastic interiors.

Why is it when you have the means and massive WANT to get something, theres nothing about which ticks all the boxes frown Looked at 2 4.0 X300 Sports in the last week and both were nowhere near described frown

I test drove a 300C an hour before an A8. A8 made the 300C seem very cheap. And uncomfortable

Very! I told myself i'd be flexible and buy on condition so not ruling 3.2's out but even decent looking examples of those (in nice colours and Sport spec) are scarce!

I think the magic of Bangle's styling is that it has aged superbly well. Both the inside and outside of that 7 look crisp and fresh.

That Seven wasn't Bangle, it was Adrian Van Hooydonk (the present design director and Bangle's successor) pen that created the E65/66.

Bangle did the E60/61 Five that still hasn't "grown on me" after 9 years and I suspect isn't likely to. Took a 530d in today and drove it as far as around the back to park, rather than up the road or home for a day or two, such is my indifference to them.

You see, an E60 530d M-Sport (ideally a facelift) is a great looking car IMO.

A better looking car than its replacement IMO.

Agree with that! Mate has a very late 57 535d touring m-sport in dark grey. Looks the business!

He also just bought a '10' plate 635d, quicker than it has any right to be. I hadn't realised how much better the facelift bonnet looks!

I agree that they look good, however conventional wisdom has it that they're not as well screwed together as an E39 non?

I think they're as well screwed together as an E39, but there was some de-contenting in materials and equipment. A base 520d feels very different inside to my fully loaded 545i.

Strange how the E60's code number is earlier than the Bangle era 6-series and 7-series yet it was launched after both. Was it held back due to the E39 continuing to sell?

Numbers don't always seem to follow in sequence

We've only recently got the F06 6 grand coupe (after the F30 and F12/13 6' conv & coupe)) and the F21 1series 3dr has just been launched

The X1 was well out of sink (E84)... The previous generation X3 was E83!

Good point - but they must surely allocate the number when they start work on the vehicle internally?
