I think they're as well screwed together as an E39, but there was some de-contenting in materials and equipment. A base 520d feels very different inside to my fully loaded 545i.
Strange how the E60's code number is earlier than the Bangle era 6-series and 7-series yet it was launched after both. Was it held back due to the E39 continuing to sell?
That's interesting. Must admit the idea of an E61 Sport in 545/50 guise is rather appealing for next year.Strange how the E60's code number is earlier than the Bangle era 6-series and 7-series yet it was launched after both. Was it held back due to the E39 continuing to sell?

MOT day for the 528, fingers crossed...
Good luck. You take care of it and get it serviced regularly, I'm sure it'll be fine. I hope mine can give me a good few months of bork-free motoring for a while. Next service not due for around 6-7k miles. On another note.... The microfilters which are changed each service, what do they do exactly and if they're changed late (by just a couple of k miles) is it going to blow up in a big fire ball?
Not strictly barge but thought I would mention:

I quite like the subtlety of my SE (and the fact it was much cheaper than a Sport) but they also ride much better on non-Sport suspension. My previous 545 had sport suspension and 18" runflats, and was too firm (such that the E46 Sport I replaced it with rode way better). The current 545 has SE suspension but dynamic drive, so it doesn't roll but it's softer (and it's better still now I have got rid of the runflats, though that made less difference than the SE suspension as it turns out - it was perfectly OK on run-flats). So try before you buy; I said it a while ago but it's worth repeating: the E60 is very spec sensitive.Zwolf said:
Not necessarily. Porsche are just as bad with 993, 996, 997, 991...
The 993 and 996 were intended to be launched in 1993 and 1996; the 997 followed the 996 hence being +1, and the 991 is them running out of numbers having already lost any coherent pattern. Hardly the same as the E and F numbers of BMWs.Jobbo said:

Cheers. My E39 Sport is spot on for me, so i guess test drives are in order. Must admit I'm shallow though and do prefer the looks of the Sport Jobbo said:

Bravo!Have now done almost 40k miles in my E60 SE stealth machine! Have stuck with run flats so far but I am really quite happy with the whole package. It is one of the ultimate all rounders.

Just done 2,000 miles down through France and back up to Belgium and Amsterdam in mine - it's just perfect for loading up with stuff and cruising effortlessly about. And decent economy on the continent (managed 30.7mpg best, but didn't get photo proof of more than 30.0) - not bad since I sat at about 85mph:Have now done almost 40k miles in my E60 SE stealth machine! On another note.... The microfilters which are changed each service, what do they do exactly and if they're changed late (by just a couple of k miles) is it going to blow up in a big fire ball?
Pollen filters aren't they?On another note.... The microfilters which are changed each service, what do they do exactly and if they're changed late (by just a couple of k miles) is it going to blow up in a big fire ball?
Mine were. Blocked and it just hindered air flow

Amazing value and I'm a new to Audi fan, but why is the 0-60 so slow, is it like the Saab Aeros and better once it gets moving?.Audi S6 Quattro 4dr Tip Auto Saloon 4.2 2004

"340 bhp 6.7 seconds" I would have thought that would be 5.5 or so?

The figure's wrong - Audi themselves quoted 0-62 in 5.7s which is about right. I think the figure quoted is for the previous shape 2.2 turbo S6."340 bhp 6.7 seconds" I would have thought that would be 5.5 or so?

Cos it's a heavy old hector, getting on for two tonnes with that lump up front, so it takes a while to get moving. And the gearing is set more for touring than racing Barry in his Fiesta with the stripes away from the lights. "340 bhp 6.7 seconds" I would have thought that would be 5.5 or so?
A 340 bhp TVR, at just over half the weight, takes around the 5 second mark to 60, by way of comparison.

Over my ideal budget but seems a hell of a car! 55k! Very tempted... Ideal spec, 4.0 Sport with cream cow, ideally black but can't win them all!
