The straight 6 in the w124 is so smooth, I just pulled on the drive and neither of the neighbours about 3-4 meters away even knew we were there.

Still though, what tyres should i go for, my usual choice for recent cars is either falken 912 or 452. The 912's are available i the 195/65/15 profile for a special offer of around £40 each on camskill + fitting else where of course.

Are there any super tyres that anyone uses on there w124 saloon that i should know about for not much more?
Any w124 owners experience of their tyres and the ride they give.
I think the current tyres are very old Michelin primacy sports that have seen better days.

Anyone have any experience of knowledge of these little peaches that seem to be popping up recently (inspired by a new thread in GG)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-53-REG-LEXUS-GS-430...

Apart from the slightly dubious Toyota Avensis styling, they seem a lot of car for the money. Examples ranging from 1400 upwards.

Anyone any experience or stick to the bigger brother (LS)?

From what I gather, with no direct experience, they are no cheaper to fuel than an LS, and regularly have an £800 disaster with a brake booster thingy.

Still want one.

Worth it just so you can drive a V8 day to day. Other men will look at you and feel inferior. Women will want to know you.

The stats though:

282 BHP
325 Nm Torque

Is that correct? Doesn't seem all that much for 4.4L of displacement in the BMW? Tuned in favour of torque over bhp for more bias on low down grunt rather than peaky performance? Intentionally kept low to keep the engine smooth and feeling refined?

My A8 makes 310bhp and 301ft/lbs of torque from 4.2L though, which definitely strikes me as engineered for comfort and refinement (especially given that engine's tuning potential).

Anyway, V8 has to be the way forward. Not as scary as a V12, far more interesting than a 4 cylinder! biggrin

Edit, scrub that - a dealer picked it up and moved it on for rather a lot more!

Essentially, but it's 325 lb ft. 325Nm would be very weedy indeed for that displacement. The power figure is one of those "convenient" domestic market insurance group ones too as it's a dead match for the 10% smaller and peakier M60 B40. I'd suspect they make around 300 in practice.

BMW's VANOS equipped NA petrol engines tended to make around 100Nm per litre, therefore 440Nm for an M62 B44.

They're getting very rare now in non totally dissolved state and the prices are really on the up. That'll make good money.

That is amazing!

The last time I spent £1500 on a land rover I ended up with a crappy 1.8 Freelander wagon. Now, when it was working it was awesome, especially in the snow, but then it refused to start one morning it was months of pain with 3 garages having a pop until it was properly sorted.

So what's to worry about on an early v8 disco other than stupid thirst and the arse end rusting away to nowt?

That's almost £5k! I can't believe it is worth anything near that.
