I wondered about buying a B17, a B29 and a B52 as investments, but apparently they bombed.....

That Imola one didn't visit a BMW dealer for an oil service until it was three years old and the speedo said 13k. Possible... but spidey tingles.

My X300 hunt may have struck gold....right engine, right colour and a seemingly good history (last owner 8 years) Downside....3 months ish MOT (but no advisories last time) no tax and it's a Cat D. But it's a 1996 car and well below even SOTW money.....

Perfectly feasible though? (Not that I'd ever treat a car like that).

It's a 16 year old car and as long as it's straight I can live with it...the price reflects it. If it was a newer car costing 1000's then maybe it would be an issue but we're talking 100's....I could break it at the money asked and come out on top.

That's the irony - repairs to the engine, we think Oh good, one less thing to go wrong. Yet minor repairs to the bodywork and we throw our hands up in horror. Yet a good body shop will make a very good repair.

As I said... possible, but spidey sense.

Plenty of lease drivers have picked up a brand new car on limited mile policy, hammer it for three years then take it to a friendly mileage place before handing it back.

That car didn't see a BMW dealer until one month before its first MOT was due.

Exactly. For a start cat d doesn't mean it's been crunched even; could be stolen recovered etc or just had something silly like the poster earlier said (bearing in mind in it's time it was a high ish value car)

As long as it's straight and there is nothing shifty looking then it really doesn't bother me. As I said it's shed money.

Agreed, it'd certainly put me off.
