Chaps. This is itching away at me for some reason I cannot quite fathom. Maybe it's the V8, maybe it's the double glazing, maybe its the 'fk you' of driving a planet eating 4x4 and never taking it offroad.

Talk me out of chopping in an E39 530i Touring for it.
What would be the point?

It basically is an E39 touring - just jacked up off the ground with 4wd and a big price premium hehe

One thing I've never understood about the X5 is why it was released at the same time as the facelift E39 yet had prefacelift E39 style light clusters and no Angel Eyes or CELIS LED's - these didn't come for another 3 years. Odd.
The fuel consumption alone will eventually wear you down . I'm not implying you can't afford it but there does come a point when paying so much in duty just to sit in a traffic jam gets beyond a joke. Unlike a lot of other barges on this thread , you accept a poor urban consumption in return for reasonable economy on a steady run , the X5 won't do you any favours in this regard.

I had one for just over a year , except for the above it was OK , handled far better than it should for it's size. I eventually got rid because it seemed to make more sense to me to run a FFRR if you're willing to live with such thirst. I did eventually own said vehicle and it was slightly better than the X5 only by 1 or 2 mpg across the board but I fully expected it to be worse , no idea how it managed it , maybe gear ratio's and the more relaxed driving style a FFRR demands

I think the RR looks so much better

Some things will always remain a mystery.

What do we reckon price wise?

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C338304

I know the styling is a bit 'Saga' but the car does appeal.

Ok...so it needs a proper haggle to get it down to thread budget... but in these austere times...who knows?

This is a proper smoker barge... in fact, the interior looks as if it's been made of smoking jackets.

Can't let this bad boy pass without comment. Irredeemably awful. The interior looks as though it's been made of smoking detritus, not smoking jackets (although maybe you are a velvet bow-tie sort of chap), and conflagration is what should happen to it. Just no.

Agreed, and I usually like uterine interiors.

Whatever it is, too much by half.

1) Finance repo.
2) Silver with beige is nucking fasty.
3) The service books I suspect will be conspicuous by their notable absence.

It looks like it was a design for a saloon originally then they just added another 3ft on the rear overhang to be able to advertise as "biggest boot in class".

I agree with you. Got a whiff of the Citroen XM about it actually. Only the French do it a bit better.

On the face of it I totally understand his reasons for not wanting to drive it rofl

At £7k You would have to be UTTERLY MAD to buy this over a good 540i touring.

For those who think outside the E39 box - how about some proper bork potential?

W8 and 4 x 4 being it's only saving grace. Is still horrendously bland looking.

stonking value for money S80 - under 100k and under budget as well? Granted not the most exciting thing on 4 wheels, but must be the possible king of wafting that isn't an S-class?
