So... a couple of questions on my newly acquired Swedish bargain barge...
It didn't come with a manual, which would've been handy. I noticed on the drive home that it had cruise control which was a nice suprise. Couldn't get it to work though but I'm not sure if that's because it's borked or just that I don't know how to work it. So just how do you activate this:
Also, there's a slider thingy near the centre air vents labelled "airmix". Any idea what it does?
You have it switched on......just get to say 50 and press the + button on the end of the stalk and it should run at that speed. + button is the upper part of that rocker switch. To go faster, hold the + button, slower hold the lower - button. To disengage the cruise just touch the brakes. It didn't come with a manual, which would've been handy. Looked at that when I was in the showroom waiting to see the 550i manual...Mechanically, not a clue but it looks like its been cared for in the recent past with 3 matching bridgestones and the 4th being a ling long or some such.
All in all looked a bit sorry for itself but potentially worth saving if you had the time and inclination.
The interior do look very good though.

Thanks, I did try that but it didn't work, so it looks like the cruise is borked. I'll look into potential solutions, but if not, it's no big deal on a £300 car.texasjohn said:

Interior looked very smart, bodywork hit and miss with a few scabby bits and trims starting to drop off.

Top end of budget after a haggle but it looks very correct, if you like that sort of thing
It strikes me that BMW have never quite got the styling of the 7er spot on, in any guise

Now then, I know you own an E38, and aren't so ignorant as to be unaware of the E23 und E32. So you simply must tell me you reasoning behind that statement...The E23 is a stonking design but the area just behind the rear door is a bit of a dogs breakfast, the kink is kind of out of keeping with the rest of the design
The E32 cures this but I don't like the turned up bum and the front indicators look too big, like they've been stuck on.
The E38s bum is a bit wrong and the overall design looks a bit heavy, especially viewed straight on or at the bum.
The E65 is a bit of a state all over. The boot, again, is the big problem.
The new model (F02?) has a massive grill that scares small children
None of these are big issues and all are handsome cars but I don't think the family styling works quite as cohesively as on the smaller cars in the range.

fronts 235/50R18 rears 255/45R18.
at least they are on mine.
Cheers seen a nice looking 728 sport but I had fears over expensive rubber doesn't seem too bad at those sizes though at least they are on mine.

I love the hofmeister kink on bimmers. But as they say, looks are subjective.
I love them all (not so much the e65...). Especially the rump of an e23.
I love the kink too, it works especially well on the E32/E38.I love them all (not so much the e65...). Especially the rump of an e23.
I also think all of them are pretty good looking, certainly better than the Lexus and big Mercs, however the design isn't as complete as the smaller cars.
Take the E30/32/34 generation; the only car that doesn't look spot on from every angle is the 7.
