RE: SOTW: BMW 325i Touring
Discussion
My GF's is for sale - almost the same apart from it is auto and has (working) a/c.
Been a fantastic car - hardly any rust either. Bit of a handfull in the winter - soved by a spare set of wheels and winter tyres!
Why so much hate for this??? Perhaps those posting in that manner have never driven one.
But you could probably say that about almost any "hate" posts on here....

E30 touring great little compact practical car, with wallop and charm
Been wooing around in our 325i convertible last few days... Love the M20 howl
Safety features.... ABS (325i only though!) & your right foot..... Survived the damp roads so far.....
325i touring are supposed to be one of the easiest BMW's around to swap ends with in the wet thanks to their perfect 50:59 weight distribution...... Hell I managed it years ago in the old mans 318i!
You could soon get your money back on that in parts..... BBS centre caps go for £30 each never mind the wheels !

yeah i'm suprised there is so much dislike for this! a colleague going back nearly ten years had one of these (actually, he had a few) and every corner/roundabout/junction in the rain was sideways, it was awesome!
Last year i bought a e34 525i expecting similair results, but the bigger heavier chassis, wider lower profile tyres and an open diff didn't really provide the same experience as the e30! Much to my dissappointment

That Autocar test one was nearly there 52.5% front and 47.5% rear distribution - a bit more nose-led than the E36 but 100kg lighter overall than the 328i variant Touring s m said:

I used to own F905NNJ too. Nice rapid thing but I bought it for whizzing up motorways and found it undergeared and consequently a bit thirsty. It pulled the same revs at 70 as my 1.5 Mk1 Golf with less than half the power.Date of Liability 21 09 2009

That's the second car in a row I've sold that's ended up exported, before that I had a Sierra 2.0iS that went to Ireland. Is it the rear drive thing?
Am considering an E36 328i touring as I think thay have a taller final drive + more efficient engine.
....or a Jaaaaaaag....

I swapped ends in my first E30 a 316 two days after purchasing it. Pulling out of a junction bootfull of thottle, whoops looking the wrong way.The only time my touring stepped out unexpectedly was on a long fast left hander. Cold, not wet but damp night, cought it with a dab of oppo. Felt like a hero bit it was nothing just a little slide.
Really wanted to like these when they were current, sat in one and I was disappointed by the fact that the steering wheel, seat position and pedals didn't line up. I felt all contorted in it.
Later in life I had an E30 M3, LHD and all in a line.
But finally, saw a E30 saloon outside the pub the other day and it did look very good, no fussy lines, silly headlights etc

The E30 325 Touring had a shorter final drive than the saloon - same 3.91 as on the Sports ( or certainly the later ones ) - in consideration that they might have to lug more weight around. They needed two changes to hit 60 so do feel quite revvyThat's the second car in a row I've sold that's ended up exported, before that I had a Sierra 2.0iS that went to Ireland. And, yes, the Irish we're pretty keen on buying up anything rwd, sporty and retro in the 90s and taking it back to Ireland

The E36 328 Touring should have the same final drive as the rest of the range, 2.93:1 manual, 3.07:1 for the auto so either will be longer geared than an E30 - low 6 to 60 and 140 so a bit quicker as well. ....or a Jaaaaaaag....
You can fit a 3.15:1 ratio plus a LSD as well if you want to liven it up a little

Not great off the line especially in auto form but with a mild chip the mid range is a lot better86mph at 16.5 shabby by todays standards but not bad for a 20 year old motor.
