I've had circa 40 performance cars in 25 years (including many evos) and I stand by the fact the quickest B road car i've had was my Teg.
I know for sure that I would have been faster in My DC2 than my current performance car on any road and any track.

In fact It would be a damn close run thing in the DC2 and the Impreza which was japanese spec.

It took me a while to get the limits of the teg as they were so high. DAB brakes very late
turn in very late, floor it let LSD sort it out, touch of over steer. Awesome.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I guess its a case of driving both really!

Thanks
Again just a warning. after my initial happiness after the test drive I was dissapointed after the first few weeks. It took me a while to realise just what you could make the car do. It defies the laws of physics. Push harder the car has higher limits than you do.

You'll struggle to find a better A/B road car than a DC2.

However it was a terrible car for a long journey (but obviously wasn't built for that).

What years did you own that, it's a lovely car, are those Accord Type R wheels?

Only asking as I looked at your location in your profile and I'm fairly sure I saw your car on the road a few times!

(Std) Evo quicker on the straights and about a cars length ahead on a lap of Croft / Donny.

I used to run my DC2 at Donny and have far more fun than anything else i've tracked. Taking the craner curves for the first time flat out (with slicks) was the ballsiest / most fun thing i've ever done in a car !

Had a guy in a Caterham come up to me after the session in disbelief that I could oversteer it more than he could with his !

Had it about 6 years ago. (S. Shields)
Yes they are Accord wheels which looked superb but killed the ride quality of the 15's.

Had slicks fitted to the 15's for the track.

You could get the nicest 172 ph1 for that money if you struggle to get a nice Dc2.

Driving wise it's about the same, can't comment further myself cause the Dc2 i drove was FUBAR,a very tired example.

Ah probably not yours then. I used to see a DC2 on Accord wheels quite lot, but this was about 2 years ago on the other side of town. That car ended up with all sorts done to it, carbon spoiler, carbon bonnet etc, the lad who owned it eventually sold it and got a Focus RS mk2 I think. Opposite end of the spectrum to a DC2 really.

I actually found myself in this exact position (ok, I had more than 2 choices in mind) & decided I wanted an Accord Type R..
Then the PH'ers told me a DC2 may be more fun so I drove one of those, along with a clio 182, BMW 330 coupe & I have an impreza anyway, my choice was a simple one after driving them all;
(please ignore horrible wheels!!)

Seriously mate, drive one! Most fun car I think I've ever driven, & I've had skylines/rx7's/Evo/Impreza etc.
The ITR isn't the fastest, but god it's fun, everything just feels.. I don't know, just right!
Drive one & you wont want anything else, mine is decent on fuel really too. smile
Hopefully this helps, if it doesn't a test drive of both will!

I found my Clio 182 slow and pretty dull, sold it after 8 months, can't comment on Integra Type R

I found the car fascinating for those reasons. I wore out the first set of tyres and had problems getting what was fitted. Bridgstone whatevers can't remeber now, RE050??.

I got something else fitted that I had always found a good tyre on other cars not on this. the difference was night and day. The closest I could get was Bridgstone S02 but nothing compared to the original tyres that were designed for the var IIRC.

The steering on the Integra was imence I have not driven a car which had such precise steering since or before. tyres with stiff side walls made this car sing.

God I miss my DC2. Granted my MINI JCW is quicker mind.

With the DC2 tyres are absolutely critical! They need high quality, stiff sidewall rubber

This can't be stressed enough.

RE010 if you can get them, not sure what the availability is on these tyres these days.

If you've got 3.5k i wouldnt go for an Integra, you'll be sorting through the cheapest ones.

I would consider an MR2 Turbo for that money. 3.5k will get you a minter.

Mine had Yokohama Advan's AD08's fitted, which I also have on my Impreza Type R. These have very stiff sidewalls and make for a very direct steering feel. They also have huge dry (& damp/intermediate) grip levels as well as confident progression. Brilliant tyre.

Although the VTEC engines are incredible at reliability, the 'small' Honda 'box's aren't. My 59K miler DC5 needed a 1st motion shaft bearing replacement (and a new clutch as the bite was on the floor). This can be tested for by sitting in the car at tickover with the clutch depressed and in neutral, when releasing the clutch you will hear a noisy bearing

Integra all the way, I've not so long ago purchased a mint uk one with low miles, treated it to a full polly bush make over, new springs and dampers, brakes etc.. Drives like new.

Best car I've owned for smiles, more so than any evo, Subaru or M3, Its my little weekend toy and will be seeing a bit of track action this year.

Integra is leagues ahead of the clio. Look after an integra and it will not disappoint! Running costs of the clio are higher with less reward.

You guys have pretty much made up my mind! It will have to be a lower end example but it seems there is a big gulf in prices atm, either £3k-3.5K or £6-7k ish. I have seen a few examples that could prove good though.

They're a work of motoring art, a synergy of engineering perfection, just remember the R stands for racing, and fundamentally that's what the teg is.

The Clio is a dam site cheaper and a great B-road hooner

Good luck

I current own a 172 Phase 1. I have previously owned a 182 and a 98-spec Integra Type-R.

The Integra is a better drivers car, no doubt.

There are some down sides though. It can attract attention from scrotes and the police. Mine got vandalised on more than one occasion (yes I know any car could be vandalised, but until I got that, and even since I got rid, its been unheard of). I was also nearly confronted for my keys. Suffice to say the image aint for everyone; I didn't mind it, it was just the unwanted attention I didn't like.

The other downside is a good teg will be a damn sight more money than a good clio.

The Clio, is, frankly, about 90% of the fun, but half the price, and slightly cheaper to run. It is still an extremely fun car, but the teg is that bit more special.

Considerably more often than I would like to leave a big cloud of black smoke every time I accelerate.
