Going to view a golf with the intention of buying tonight as yet another sale fell through on an ibiza hybrid. Its an 02 TDI 130 on 110,000 miles which has been mapped to 170bhp. Im hoping to get it around 200-210. What mods would i need for this?
Straight through exhaust
Front Intercooler
PD150 Turbo? Are these like for like or need modifying, worth spending money on or is there not much difference between the 130?
Remap again
Clutch eventually

Should this see 200 or am i going to have to hybrid it?

Thanks

Thanks

Whilst I might sound like a boring old fart, modding a diesel engine that was plodding at 130 bhp to 200+bhp is asking for trouble.
Heat for a start, going from 130 bhp to 170 bhp might be tolerable for the engine, pushing it beyond that could cause heat problems with the head etc.
Turbo ? I would spend every minute driving it on boost worrying the turbo is about to go pop in a loud whistling smokey fashion (yes I read about the 150 bhp turbo)
You are putting a lot of pressure on the engine imo asking for 200 plus.

Upto you of course, just my opinion.

My brother has one with a hybrid turbo kicking out 245bhp and 335lb ft. It came from Allard and was their demo car. Proper little Q car smile

They've mapped it to be very usable everyday pottering around town but goes like a scalded cat over 2600rpm.

It's got 80k on it and runs beautifully smile

TDI FURBY is the man to ask as he runs a Fabia VRS with decent HP.

OP with those modifications you have listed you will not be near 200hp and if it does run 200hp a new clutch is not a maybe it is a necessity.

Hopefully it should be ok at 200/210 bhp. I would love a hybrid but cant justify paying £700+ for it so im hoping to get 200ish from a PD150 turbo map, fmic, exhaust. anyone think this is possible?

Don't buy the 130.

Go and buy a maybe slightly higher milage PD 150.

Remap it.

200 Bhp. (well 195ish)

Easily possible. It doesn't make it a good idea though. Its a lot of money for 30hp.

I had a 150 Anniversary Golf I remapped, full turbo back exhaust from milltek and it made 190 ish BHP, despite what the Internet "experts" tell you that exhaust was the single biggest waste of money I've encountered over the last 5 years, so bear that in mind

To get 200 you WILL need a hybrid turbo, the 150 turbo won't be enough, the engine internals will be fine as the PD lumps are all largely identical throughout the range

I liked my Anniversary, but I genuinely wish I never bothered with it and bought an E46 330d instead, simple remap on an early car will see over 200bhp and a later car has 204bhp as standard, coupled to a better chassis it's a far superior car.

If you ask me number chasing is a bad idea , but don't let drivability put you off going for 200 bhp hehe

Save your money and buy a 170 lump to start with

Well its already got a stainless back box so i would take the exhaust off and get the cat and silencer cut out and pipe welded straight through.
Fmic would cost me about £150ish
Remap £150
PD150 Turbo Approx £200?

If i get it to 195/200 like people are saying hopefully the clutch will be OK

What exactly is the point? If you want a 200bhp car then why not just buy a better car to begin with rather than throwing money at a golf diesel?

Isn't the PD130 a slightly different engine to the 150/170 unit?

Probably worth having a chat with one of the tuning companies to get a good idea, Shark always seem to have a good reputation on the Skoda forums, but there's loads of companies out there specialising in tuning VAG TDIs

What year is it? Will it pass MoT emissions without a CAT? If not it's (IMO) a dumb idea to remove it.

Does it have to be diesel and 200hp? And a 5 seater hatchback?

Yeah it will pass with out a cat.
Needs to be a diesel, I live in Spain so will be driving over at least once 2000miles each way! Even with out this i normally do about 10-15k a year. Not bothered about 5 seater hatchback, Not really bothered about 200 but i have seen golfs with 180-190 with a map and exhaust just trying to get it a little higher with out going the hybrid route
