I was idly trawling the net earlier and decided to look up Mitsuoka the Japanese manufacturer of Micras styled to look like Jags. The Wikipedia page mentioned they started a bit of a trend for retro styled product that other Japanese manufacturers got involved in as well, including Mitsubishi with a version of the Pajero Junior.

I'd never heard of the Pajero Junior for a start - JDM and only made for 3 years, it was replaced by the Pinin which I had heard of.

They did 3 limited editions of the Junior

The McTwist

The Lynx

and (wait for it)

The Flying Pug

It quite obviously isn’t. For a start it has a 1.0 litre engine. For seconds it quite clearly says Pajero Jr Flying Pug on the plate in the pic. Thirdly it is obviously the same glasshouse as the Junior.

Saw a new Ford KA today, very bland, boring design, shame really as the previous models looked interesting and quirky. Now it’s just a small hatchback that could be a vauxhal or suzuki without a badge!

They didn’t even market it either.

I’d never buy one and I’m not their target audience however I don’t see how they can take a formula that works and do the complete opposite!
Profit. The last Ka was shared with the Fiat 500 platform but the 500 kicked it's sales ass. I think the new Ka is based on the Fiesta platform so they can push the Fiesta upmarket like the Polo. VW have Seat and Skoda as cheaper variants.

It's also hard to argue that a bigger Ka for the same cash won't appeal to pensioners, given the trendy Ka, for youngsters, wasn't a success.

Have had a new Ka+ for over a year now (not quite a pensioner) - It really is a competent car. At c3k less than a Fiesta we're happy with it!
I agree it hasn't been marketed much though.

Mitsubishi Colt CC

One parked near me this morning. Funny looking thing. Not in any good way either.

Well there's quite a few of these on the moon but I don't go there much.

Jioto Caspita. Powered by a subaru flat 12 making around 500hp if I remember right. Top speed was allegedly 300km/h, but the car was never built.

the new Ka is based on the previous fiesta platform. it's not even intended for our market but rather for developing countries like india. they want small cars with 4 doors.

they have basically done the opposite of what micra did. the previous micra (which was ugly, bland, boring) was for international markets, especially develloping ones. the new micra is much more edgy and stylish, designed for european/UK markets.

developing countries prefer something modest, that isn't flashy.

Following on from the Mitsubishi Junior, thing.

I never knew they also made a Kei version of the Pajero. The 650CC Pajaro Mini:
