I do love these South American specials, one of my favourites is the VW1500 - competition to guess the car it started out as (apologies if mentioned before)

Spot the Uno-based van in the background too.
Looks like a Morris Ital?

The swage on the rear door & quarter reminds me of an Avenger or similar!

Was going to say that but the crease on the rear quarter panel would be a huge/costly thing to add. Hillman Avenger is a similar shape though?

Correct. Also sold as the Dodge 1500 in Argentina.
Started off as a good car, the Avenger but it looked terrible when they badly grafted a Talbot front and rear end on it. Even worse than the Ital.

This popped up in my facebook news feed, never seen one before.

1990's Ford Verona. Brazilian apparently.

is it just me or when you see these sort of things like a ford from places like brazil, argentina, africa, they always look like they've taken the design we would recognise over in the UK and just go OK how can fk this up by make our own small detail changes which just look st and jarring with the rest of the car? OK pencil time, quick fk up to the roofline, quick bks to the C pillar, shorten/lengthen the whole thing for some reason... aaaand done!

It's almost like they can't help themselves - like they just have to put their mark on it somewhere.
In fairness, that is as good a back end graft as the Orion (putting aside the massive badging for the hard of seeing). The Orion was always a Friday afternoon "draw a boot on that Escort before you go home, will you?", as was the horrific Belmont.

E31 830i - a few were built and then scrapped. Used the M60B30 lump.

E32 767iL - V16 prototype used a manual gearbox. yum

Steady on old chap... all sorts of reasons for this... availability of materials, engines , pressings, manufacturing facilities, exchange rates, terrain , road quality.. GDP and local tastes... The world may be more harmonized now.. I like this local diversity...

On the flipside... if you were as familiar with their version before seeing the UK one as you were with the UK version before seeing theirs, would you think the same thing in reverse?
