I'm surprised you didn't know about that. There was a very famous one, given away in a competition to the winner of the world's ugliest knees.

Not quite, the 'off road' look of the Streetwise was predated by the A6 Allroad, Volvo V70 XC and probably a few others.

The Matra (later Talbot) Rancho of 1977; but there's bound to something even older - there always is!

Think the Subaru Outback did it before the Allroad or XC too... a key difference being that all of those actually had 4wd, which the streetwise didn't. Though IIRC the V70XC on-demand 4wd system wasn't much more use than 2wd offroad anyway.

Big old thing for electric drive. Good idea though.

In a similar fashion there's an electric Vito due in a few months with an electric Sprinter due next year. There's also an electric Renault Master due about now too.

A few I've seen in the last few days.

W211 E550 4matic! S Class 400bhp V8 in an E Class. Nice. I knew of the E500, but the 550 had passed me by.

When I saw it my first thought was "why has someone grafted an MG nose onto a Fiat Barchetta?" But then I realised the MG was RHD!

Something about that suggested to me that it wasn't quite as old as the 60s styling suggested.
Google says they were actually built in 2000 as a limited edition.

RHD Barchettas do exist ,just don't hold your breath waiting to see one, very few around.

You didn't really miss it, as Ares mentions they're common in the US, they're just later 500 models that are badged 550 for the US when the V8 went from 5.0 to 5.5L and stuck when engine size went down again. There's E550, S550, CL550, G550, etc. that are simply the US equivalents of EU/ROW E500, S500, CL500, G500.

Wow, there are some really young people on here...

I was familiar with the usual Honda S800 and S600 from the 60s but this passed me by, the 1300 Coupe which looks very Mazda RXish at the front (old RX not new RX)

which led me to this odd Honda 1300 that seems to have touches of Triumph Toledo and Vauxhall Viva about it. Pre-Datsun days, of course when nobody had heard of Japanese cars.

I know. I don't think children should be allowed to play on the internet without adult supervision...

Nissan already have an electric van which is only slightly smaller than a Transit, NV200 or something similar. Renault have the Kangoo van in electric flavour. For inner city stuff they are pretty logical but I'm disappointed in the range (99 miles) of the big one. I guess the batteries eat into the payload weight too much.

I know I've sold both Renault and Nissan lcv smile

The problem with the larger vans is they have a similar payload to the diesel versions, so they can't take enough batteries. They reckon the electric Vito has a 90 odd mile range, but within 2 years that should be up to 200 or so as things are moving pretty quickly in development. The replacement for lithium iron batteries isn't far off.
