Yes, but I couldn't resist the jest.
That Renault Cinq 6x6 looks to me like a small CX Loadrunner, for the man who wants to drive a lot of stuff across a continent very quickly.
Both- and that Matra, in spite of my jest- are very cool vehicles.
The CX was conceived by Pierre Tissier in response to the requirements of the French newspaper industry's headache of getting news distributed through the country at high speed overnight. The CX had a payload of 1 metric tonne and could travel at speeds well in excess of an HGV, and deliver direct to point. Reports were that they would cruise at 160km/h on the deserted Autoroutes. That Renault Cinq 6x6 looks to me like a small CX Loadrunner, for the man who wants to drive a lot of stuff across a continent very quickly.

Actually I did know they existed as I saw one at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1973 (I think).
So here is the Monica 560, which I thought at the time looked simply stunning - and still looks pretty good IMHO!
Engine was a 5.6 litre Chrysler V8 - hence the 560 name.
By any chance did you have your polaroid swinger with you and take some pictures of the TVR stand showing the new M series cars?So here is the Monica 560, which I thought at the time looked simply stunning - and still looks pretty good IMHO!

Today I learned that the American market Toyota Yaris is in fact the Mazda 2.

The chassis were used for more exciting applications such as this one, transporting the film crew chopper on the Paris Dakar.
Pre CX, Tissier did the monster DS
And a 1 off SM (I'd like to have been at the lunch where someone thought a utility vehicle with a Maserati engine and the world's most complicated suspension system was a good idea)
All magnificent vehicles. It seems to be a problem that only the French try to solve, moving a lot of stuff very quickly without just flying it there. In the same spirit they create TGV La PosteThe chassis were used for more exciting applications such as this one, transporting the film crew chopper on the Paris Dakar.

They're French. It was the 70s. Lunch probably involved several bottles of wine. Hope that clears it all up... Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
