Paint it white and pink and slap some over-wide rims on and you have the car of choice for every Essex hairdresser in the late 80s
Wasn’t that the Vitara?
Definitely Vitara. Bull bars, side steps, wide arches, white roof, vinyl graphics (usually chrome)
Don't forget the spare wheel cover featuring two shagging rhinos.
As previously endorsed by Chav Royalty.

she's a lost soul that woman. The sort of person that will mysteriously die aged 45 and everyone will say how awful it is that she was sent mental by the press hounding her.

New Suzuki Jimny spotted. Tiny and looked rather cool.
It surprises me that you didn't know it existed, its been the subject of two very long running threads in General Gassing for several months now. I know its easy not to read everything, but it's been referenced multiple times elsehwere.

Cool though, I agree on that

First one I had seen on the road.

I struck charity shop gold today.

I knew of quite a few, but most were new to me. Here are a few highlights:

Weitz X600. Based on a Camaro Z28 and a run of 1,000 was planned, but it remained a one-off. Apparently it survives (or did when the book was published in 1997) in a Cleveland aircraft museum.

Volvo 480 convertible. This is a pretty thing and I always liked the coupe. Shame it never went into production.

1984 Tickford Stag. A one-off £20k, 200bhp upgrade to a 10-year-old Stag.

Innocenti Regent 1300 De Luxe. Italian built Allegro, complete with quarter lights for hot weather.

Citroen 2CV Metro, with the 4-cyl engine from a GS. Love the dummy hood irons.

If you like the unusual, there are copies for pennies on Amazon. Giles Chapman is a very knowledgeable writer.

That is a new one on me & stunning.
I'm with you on the 480, they were lovely. The C30 tried to emulate it, and sort-of succeeded I suppose.

My brother had a 480 as a student and really liked it. It was reliable, even run on a shoe-string, but as with most of them, the interior fell to bits and he did thousands of miles with no working speedo or odo. Not many left now.

And definitely one of the best-looking Stags I've seen.

I'm sure someone near me still drives one of those as their daily - in purple with (i think) 3 spoke alloys. I'll try and get a photo

I've a feeling I saw that Volvo in the metal. Was it at an early 90s NEC Motorshow?

That was developed at Coventry Motor Panels by my then flatmate.

It killed a famous firm when Volvo didnt follow through (I assume - I do not know the financials behind the situation).

There’s a few of those type of things about.
It’s a tax dodge, it qualifies as a commercial vehicle rather than a car so better BIK.
An old colleague of mine used to run the Landrover Discovery version of one.
There’s a HMRC list of them floating about somewhere, I expect one of our resident accountants will have a link.

You could get a Land Rover Freelander as a van, just like the Discovery.

When my bosses old disco 4 broke down, Landrover assist came to fix it, who were just rac staff in different t shirts, and he came in a commercialish Disco 4. He said they use normal discos and do a temporary conversion because the resale is better on normal ones than commercial ones, but I guess they probably weren't trying to avoid company car tax or they don't pay any because they are on call or something.
