There's one of these for sale yards from my house. On the stuff stuck to the Windows,it explains its a commercial vehicle with only 2 seats.
I'd have had no idea as the side Windows are dark.

This took me by surprise the other day, recognised it as a Seat Ateca but not seen the badge before, turns out Cupra has become it's own little brand, I guess like citroen and DS.
I actually liked it in a strange way, if somebody forced me to own a crossover, this would be it.
have you seen the price though?I actually liked it in a strange way, if somebody forced me to own a crossover, this would be it.

The “brand” is new and made up, there’s only a premium attached to it in the heads of the people who thought it up. It’s a Seat with a Transformers badge.
as is any brand. However put that to one side as it is a different brand with different pricing and product strategy etc. Audi RS is 'just an Audi' too but they are quicker, cost loads more and you rarely get a discount. That's what SEAT are trying to do here too. GravelBen said:

The VAG brands to me should be
VW - standard
Audi - upmarket
Skoda - cheap
Seat - sporty
But it's all mixed up and Seat don't have anywhere to go with the other ranges as they are.
there's too much overlap really. Maybe they are trying hard to differentiate but does the close constraints of the underlying VAG product base allow for that... not sure.VW - standard
Audi - upmarket
Skoda - cheap
Seat - sporty
But it's all mixed up and Seat don't have anywhere to go with the other ranges as they are.

You would think VAG already too many brands, all selling variants of the same car, without trying to invent another one.VW - standard (pretend premium cooking cars)

What next "GTI" as a standalone brand?
It would help if they didn't all look the same. There was more variation between models in the 70s Ford range than in those 4 brands put together.
I wonder how many Vignales Ford have sold when nobody was fooled they were just the same cars with tarty bits stuck on. Not many, I'll bet and none without a big discount.
Seat might pull this off.
Don't forget that British impressions of Seat are not necessarily shared around the rest of the world.
VW is a more "budget" proposition in the UK than in Europe.
French cars carry some prestige reputation in China.
Even if UK buyers think Cupra as a brand is a load of tosh, what really matters is whether the Cupra brand has traction around the rest of Europe. If it does, it'll firm up.
We might scoff at the idea of DS, but it's been a good financial investment for PSA.
