They had a very cavalier attitude to badge placement.

Despite Reliant putting the full name on one side, in the correct order, people still call them Robin Reliants.
I have something in the back of my mind, that a manufacturer swapped the badges around half way through production.
I think it might have been the Montego...

Not quite swapped as such - the Austin brand was discontinued so the name no longer appeared on the cars. They were neither an Austin nor a Rover beyond that point

Yes, that was the era where the cars were self-defined - Mini, Princess, Montego etc.

And they had to still cover the badge mounting holes with something - so 1.6LX I suppose!
What were those cars branded in the interim? Those that shall not be named - the Voldemort Montego?!

Wow, I never know about the model-named branding. Seems this is a front badge from that era of Montego...

That’s it! The Austin Montego simply became the Montego at some point around 1988 and so did the Maestro.

As I recall so did the Metro but then a couple of years later became Rover Metro

Not strictly correct.

The Maestro become Maestro, and the Metro became Metro. They didn't become Montego as well.

When all the brands you own have such a tarnished reputation you simply stop using them.

Just think - had the plan been successful there would have been whole Metro Maestro and Montego sub- brands with half a dozen models, like they did with Mini smile

Don't forget the estate that was added later. I don't think the rest of Europe got them, so possibly a Holden-ism?
Ah yes, the estate. Here's an earlier styling mock up that was rejected for being "too curvy"

On Sunday I saw a clio mk1 camper van. With a bit of research I think I saw a "Stimson Sportique"

It’s almost certainly been mentioned on this thread before, but I always thought the Brazil market VW SP2 was a good looking car.

Does that roof unclip and rise up so you can stand up inside? A friend of mine had a Morris Marina Suntour with a roof that did that. About a dozen of us went to our secondary school graduation ceremony in it.
