More car-based vans... looks like a 2016 Ford Focus:

But open the rear doors and this is what you see:

Or a "nice" Mitsubishi Outlander:

Crude conversions as you can see. There are so many more. The funniest ones I've seen are SUV's described as "Crew Cab". So 5 seats, rear glass etc... exactly the same as the non-commercial variant.

I saw this in Goole today, I think it is some kind of Japanese import but not certain.
Mitsuoka Viewt. Nissan Micra with Jag mkII replica nose and tail.
I saw quite a few of those in Japan last year, there are other models too, including Wolseley Hornet/Riley Elf lookalikes, miniature Citroen H vans and VW buses. The best was the Mitsuoka Galue, a Bentley S3 wannabe.

Much as today, you can't buy an S-Class estate, or an XJ, or a 7 series.

Today, that's because of SUVs, but in the past it was because estates were utilitarian, and large executive cars weren't.
And yet there were various conversions for e.g. the S-class and the Jaguar XJ. I've even seen an estate based on the 1990s Rolls Royce and Bentley.

Yes, we all have, but it's not as if they were satisfying huge pent-up demand. Build numbers are probably in the tens, if that . smile

You'd think that when Peugeot Citroen wanted to build and sell a Citroen C2 in China, they'd, you know, base it on the Citroen C2? Now that would be silly wouldn't it?

I so want to visit the Petersen. I've not been to LA for ages, when I was last there the museum was closed and being renovated.

The C2 was 3 door only, the Chinese expect cars to have back doors.

I think the side profile is even nicer - especially as a tin-top... however (for me) the panel on the rear end lets it down. (can't find a small enough photo to warrant posting though)

They like their rear legroom, hence the long wheel base Audi A3 / 4 which is China only.

(assuming that Top Gear were correct all those years ago)

A6 and Passat too. That's because everyone who can afford a D-sized car, can afford a driver too.

That’s why the original Skoda Superb was a lightly restyled Chinese-market lwb Passat.
