Anyone use an outdoor car cover regularly???
Discussion
Need to consider buying an outdoor cover for my car but are the decent quality ones a hassle to put on and off all the time? I would need to strap the cover underneath because of the high winds here, but am concerned that I'll never be bothered to take the cover off and use the car! The car is only used 2-3 days a week and always in clean condition but worried it will just end up in the back of the wardrobe!!!
I had a fitted cover for my old MGB GT. It was easy to put on and the advantage of it being fitted, was that it never came close to coming off even in high winds.
I also bought a general car cover for my 944. No matter how much rope I used it always seemed to break free when it got a bit windy and was a general pain in the @rse.
So my top tip: Buy a proper fitted cover for your model of car. They're a few quid more, but more than worth it.

My car lives under a cover most of the time. It's not a problem, Takes a couple of minutes to put on and take off (Although an extra pair of hands helps if it's windy). Mine just has two straps that run underneath and has never escaped. As has been said buy a proper fitted cover it's worth thew extra.
ETA: Having the car cover on has never stopped me using the car.

My TVR lives under a fitted cover most of the time. It has elasticated ends and will only peel off in very high winds. I only put the straps on if its getting up to gale force.
This is the one I use http://www.motoringclassics.co.uk/moltex-car-cover... just make sure you select the smallest size that will fit your car e.g. for my TVR Chimaera they recommend a medium but I bought a small - its a very tight fit but wont come off or flap around.

I have one made by Specialised Covers (for a CR like yours). It's good quality and they provide straps/buckles to secure it. Comes with a bag as well so you don't pick up debris and then transfer that onto the car. I also have an additional laminated cable and shielded lock to prevent an opportunist trying to steal it.
It's good quality and is a perfect fit (I had concerns that the fixed wing would just be a loose bulge in the fabric but it's tailored).
The car needs to be really clean though otherwise you'll scratch the car. I assumed they would include a window panel for tax disc/parking permit. They didn't and were unreasonable about making an amend after I realised. What irritated me is that they didn't list options and the sales person didn't query whether I needed this. Ho hum.
