RE: Chris Harris video: Camaro ZL1 vs Mustang GT500
Discussion
Camaro looks a really well sorted car. In a subtle colour I think it would be the perfect successor to the old Monaro.
Mustang seems completely bonkers and insane. Which I suppose fits its place in the market perfectly. It may be extremely lacking in technical competence chassis wise, But creates a drama and occasion unlike any modern European saloons, with the possible exception of a C63 AMG.
If I was to be offered a list of the following:
Camaro
Mustang
RS4
M3
C63
etc... of which one I could choose for a weekends use. I think I'd have to admit, for the sheer event and fun (important word) it'd be a choice between the 2 Americans. To think these are specced up Passat CC money is hilarious. I know the debate of making them RHD could fill about 40 pages of a thread, but its a trick I feel, especially GM Europe, are missing. I can see why Ford don't feel the need to bring the Mustang over here. But with the civilised behaviour the Camaro seem's to show, it could well work. But the main problem is people over here (even petrolheads) fill these forums with positive comments whenever there's a V8 American/Aussie car reviewed.... people screaming out they need a V8, even in a pick up truck etc. Then go buy a BMW instead. If your a proper petrol head (and in a stronger financial position than me!) you'd have one of these over a German exec any day. And I'm hoping you do..... so I can buy it in 10 years. (hopefully before petrols 4 quid a litre!! lol)

Great video review
Really bloody annoying background music ticking away through the whole thing though!
annoying background music seems to be an American thing - see the US produced video by that bloke from Evo of the Ariel Atom in Wales. Couldn't watch that particlar video because of the annoying music drowning out the engine noises.Really bloody annoying background music ticking away through the whole thing though!

Do I drive a Pewgeeot or a Persho??
Is it Volksvagen or VolksWagon??
I think we tend to pronounce things as their creators intend - and thus that's a Zee Ell 1 surely?
p.s. I can't imagine saying Austin Allegro without a Brummie accent either

Harris, along with this Hungarian chap, are probably my two favorite car presenters.

Higher power simply means the car can burn fuel more quickly - when you get right down to it, most production engines are in a similar efficiency range.
It begs the question: what's the range like if you're deploying the whole 650-odd hp a lot of the time?
How big is the fuel tank?
By the way, the 2013 GT500 is already on Ford USA's website. Base price is $54K.
C
ETA: Just checked. It's 16 US Gallons, which is about 60l.
Wondering even harder about the range now, if pressing on. At a guess you might be able to empty the tank in under 100 miles...
Just thinking about it: is Chris H kicking about on here? What was the track mpg like?

Excellent video Chris, very well presented and yet another reviewer that isn't afraid to say he actually enjoyed driving an American car and can see what they have to offer. I bet if you had jumped into a 325i and took it around the track after driving those two you would probably fallen asleep! So pleased I drive 640bhp of 36month warranted USA motorcar. And about 8mpg as long as I don't floor it......

I honestly couldn't tell you which one I'd rather have. Two stunning cars, so far up my street it hurts. Argh.
Driving position in the Ford seems really odd, howtall short is Harris? I seem to have a different issue in my car, which feels like it was made for people with has massively long arms and stumpy little legs.
I'd resigned the thought of buying an S197 Mustang to the back of my mind, but now I'm wondering whether, if I lived within walking distance of work, could I justify one in a year? Providing I find a job... I couldn't afford a Camaro anyway, so that makes that decision easier I guess.
Are there plans to bring either to the UK? Also it's nice to see so something that actuall echoes 'Bumblebee's' nose job!
Ps. Loving the rear indicators on the Ford, wonder how they'd work on a UK-Import...

It is, sadly, a very English thing to mispronounce words out of laziness (AND to then argue that the mispronunciation is correct)! So many things are said incorrectly in Britain, but what is confusing is when manufacturers' radio- and TV- adverts also mispronounce their own brands; 'Ikea' (ee-kay-ah) and 'Hyundai' (hee-yoon-day) are good examples of this.
However, woe betide the tourist who pronounces Leicester ('lester') as 'lay-ces-ter', Bicester ('bister') as 'bi-ces-ter', or Keswick ('kessik') as 'kez-wick'!

What's the power to weight of the mustang vs the Veyron?
Not even in the same sport - barely the same universe really...Mustang 1723kgs 661bhp on US pump gas
Veyron 1888kgs and between high 900s and almost 1200 depending on who you ask/what fuel you use/which model you have.
Then there's the Veyrons gearbox and launch control systems and MASSSSSIVE tyres and downforce (probably more from the rear wing along than the entire Mustang will generate) and...
It would be like racing a pushbike and an R1...
ETA - There is no doubt the Mustang driver would have more fun.
What the Ford needs, is for Ford to get it's hands on it. Some of that Ford Europe chassis magic that made the Fiesta, Puma, Focus and Mondeo into really decent drivers cars. Mentioning US gas station fuel got me thinking, I wonder what BHP that pony engine could do on decent UK petrol.
I have been feeling the "pull" of wanting a 'stang for awhile now. Out here in the ME, the roads suit the 'stang and with price of petrol as it is (and supposed to be gowing lower), V8 cars here rule the black stuff. Think I need to get down to the Stealership to go for a test drive.
