Get a T5 Volvo. Scandi style and comfort - still get the bits and no engine slushing issues!
True, but my gawd the thirst!! Although the 5cyl warble makes it worthwhile. Just!

The oil sludge is no worse than some issues that the Volvo can throw up IMHO and is easily dealt with.
There is no issue with SAAB parts supply anymore. The old bloke at the top of SAAB UK has set up a firm which imports the necessary parts from Trollhatten or however the fook you spell it. Will come out on you local dealer's night network delivery. Even do overnight parts on TP and VOR orders.

To the end users there are no differences in the way the parts network works. To us bloody drivers its a pain in the arse because Vauxhall really hate us bringing SAAB parts into their warehouse.

If (when) anything goes wrong on a 95 i was surprised how easy it is to work on.
I swapped my sid on the dashboard with just a screwdriver.
Fixed an electric dropped window with just 1 torx bit and a flat screwdriver.
Replaced the cps on the engine in half an hour.
Changed the DI casette with one torx bit.
The parts are pricey but are so simple to work on and no squeaks or rattles when put back together.
Nippy in a straight line but crap at corners.

Can confirm it's a chain - as with all Saab 4 in line engines. smile
The 2.2TID 120bhp is not a Saab engine.
The former poster was talking about the 9-5 Aero he had bought, which has proper Saab engine (B235R) albeit with some choice GM er, 'modifications' ...

The 2.2 TiD is an Opel/Vauxhall/Isuzu engine, related to the 2.0 direct injected (but not common rail) lumps in first generation Zafiras, Vectras, Astra Gs et al.
