Cars with engines you never new existed
Discussion
We have recently had the cars you never knew existed thread and there are some real gems in there but recently I have seen a few posts with cars I knew about but had engines in them I didn’t expect or know about.
I will set the ball rolling:
The MG ZT with a V8 - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Didn’t realise until this thread came along that this car was available with this engine.
In another thread somebody mentioned the a Jag S type with a V8 aswell - I always thought this was an oil burning motorway cruiser.
Simple rule is the engine must be factory built in to the car so no crazy engine conversions.
Over to you..

How can you post about something you don't know exists? isn't that a paradox.
next you will be telling us you don't know what an 8.32 is.
How about the Ferrari 208? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_308_GTB#208_G...

I only recently found out the Marina was fitted with A 1.5-litre diesel version, using an engine developed from the B-Series, was offered in a few European countries where the tax rates favoured oilburners. With no more than 37 or 40 hp on offer!!
Damn that must of been a joy to drive back in 1972

It was only 965kg, so 41hp/tonne.I only recently found out the Marina was fitted with A 1.5-litre diesel version, using an engine developed from the B-Series, was offered in a few European countries where the tax rates favoured oilburners. With no more than 37 or 40 hp on offer!!

The Mk 5 Polo 1.2 (3 cyl) is 59 hp and (I think 1120kg) so 52hp/tonne.
Horribly underpowered cars still exist....

I recently saw a crazy looking man driving a (first shape) Mercedes ML 400 CDi.
Turns out you could get a 4 litre V8 diesel one in Europe - how he'd obtained an RHD one I don't know.
By going to his local Merc dealer and buying one - they were sold here too! Turns out you could get a 4 litre V8 diesel one in Europe - how he'd obtained an RHD one I don't know.

Judging by the quality of the roads in Eastern Europe now, and extrapolating back to what they were probably like in the 70s, it would be a bit pointless to have much more power because you can't do more than 20mph on most of them anyway.
