Got a new company car recently as my sales job is 70% on the road. It's a large organisation and they are quite keen on start/finish times, which is unusual as all the other similar jobs I've had, they didn't mind too much as long as you didn't take the micky, and your figures were good. There has been a few sackings in the company as well lately. I'm no slacker, but I do prefer the flexiblity of the odd early finish as well as an early start or work through lunch. Is there any tell tale signs I can look for under the bonnet or anywhere to find signs that it's been trackered?

If your employers' heads are screwed on they will measure your performance by bottom line results, rather than simply hours spent in the seat. If this is not the case, then you are probably better off looking for a new employer anyway.

Tracker will be hidden under the dash...

It may be a condition of the company insurance that the fleet is trackered.

I also have a company car and have been advised that they have no obligation to tell you If or not its tracked. If however you ask them, they have to give you the correct answer. Another point to remember, forget the car if you have a company mobile phone they can track them for little over a quid a month live on line and print out detailed movements of the phone.

On 2 tracked company cars I've had/have, it's been hidden inside the dash/behind the glove box somewhere.

Start running a GPS jammer inside your car and wait and see if they call you. wink

I used to sell fleet tracking solutions years ago. The most common place to fit the unit was behind the dashboard between the dash and bulkhead with a patch antenna fixed inside the plastic bumper cavity. Your company doesn't have to tell you if the vehicle is tracked or not as they are not tracking you, they are tracking their vehicle.

I supplied a lot of sales fleets and most didn't tell their staff. In one case I remember equipping 50 electricians vans and sending our engineers out to fit one to the boss's wife's Merc SL while it was in for service. I believe a divorce ensued. . . . . .

The bottom line is if your contract specifies your hours of work, make sure it looks like you're working them! smile

Did you have an employers tracker in a company car?

just fit a jammer to the car.. and another one in/near where its parked near home.. that way the car will only ever show up when you choose to have it show up.

its not illegal to plug in an in car phone charger.. or to park near a jamming signal wink

Ah, as I thought. An employer will hide their tracker in case an employee "accidentally" disconnects it! wink

As somebody mentioned above, company mobile can much more easily be tracked.

Yes I mentioned this earlier. A previous boss proudly gave me a demo once when at the office. All the dots on the screen were real time positions of the phones and he could go back ten days and get several locations every hour.
