Wow well done for finding my photos. I was secretly hoping that someone might have saved them. Yes the engine looked like that link. Still with its twin SUs. The dash arrangement is actually quite cool. He could have easily have launched an LHD version!

Where do they hide the gearbox?

Cool, thank you. I think it's a pretty cool car and a shame it's not getting restored, although it's his to do with as he wishes obviously.

Twitter is a HORRENDOUS way to tell that story which deserves so much better than 11 short individual clips. Someone needs to tell him that YouTube exists...!

Sadly this means the creator of the Furia has passed away.

The plan for the Furia is to restore it to a presentable condition and then find a suitable place to display the car and its amazing history for everyone to see, which hopefully will include appearances at shows etc

Its not going to be squirreled away in my private collection, the car deserves to be seen.

I'm sorry if some of you are offended by seeing the car on my twitter feed, if I'd posted on youtube I'm sure someone would have complained about that also.

Lets just be grateful for the car being "saved" and not complain about the platform that delivered you the news

The car is in an awful state, its not going to be a 5 minute tart up, so please be patient and I will endeavour to share the progress with you all as it happens

Kindest Regards
Darren

So it’s gone. The tarpaulin made me laugh. It was uncovered for 45 years, so that must only have been added very recently. Where’s the driver’s seat gone? Also not sure the transverse Princess 6 and auto gearbox makes it a Ferrari or Lamborghini competitor. Anyway good luck with the restoration: the fibreglass bodywork is in a terrible state. PS all the glass was bespoke, so don’t break any windows!

Good on you for taking it on - my comments on Twitter were not an insult, more that I felt such a cool project deserves a proper telling of the story. I would have said the same of Jonny Smith doing a Late Brake Show in several 90-second chunks. Twitter's the wrong place for something like this as they're purely short-term.

Appreciate it's a probably more of a pain to film properly, edit and upload to something like YouTube but the story would then be there forever and fully documented for others to watch in future. My comments were merely in praise of the project and wanting to see more in a bettter format.

Either way, good luck with it. If you do decide to put it on YT please let us know.

Well done Darren I expect a invite to the unveiling seeing how much pain that car cost me! I could even bring the mother in law..

Looking forward to seeing the updates whatever the format!

Nice write up on Hagerty website.

https://www.hagerty.co.uk/articles/built-on-a-whim...

I had a beer with the author whilst he was doing his research, but he doesn’t seem to have reported anything I told him. I disagree with the paragraph relating to Pistonheads. The family was not inundated with people wanting to see the Furia. It was just me, on one occasion in my Lotus and the owner was more than happy to show me round and take photos. No-one else knew where the car was and the location was not revealed. I even turned down the approaches of one of the big monthly Classic Car magazines who wanted to get in touch with the owner with a view to displaying the Furia at the NEC classic car show. No legal threats were issued. I only took the photos down due to the grief petemurphy was getting from his Mother in Law. Anyway that’s just a minor part of the tale. The car has been rescued and that’s all that matters.

Excellent story... I remember it from the first time around, but had forgotten the conclusion. What a wonderful thing to restore and make into a roadworthy state... just a shame the original builder isn't about to witness it. Then again, like many an "amateur" designer, engineer, etc. I'd imagine most of the attraction was in the building of it. The sixties, seventies and eighties sprouted some strange one offs - I doubt we'll ever see the like again.
