Fingers crossed this does happen, followed by flogging the thing for housing/industrial estates or just let go back to nature whatever. Thoroughly bored with hearing about how wonderful it is day in day out. Just another (ok it's long) race track. Get over it - there's plenty of others.

Are you on the right forum? For a PH'er, the 'Ring is one of the greatest places on earth.

+1

Or a solution could be for a private individual/company to buy it out. From what I know it does generate alot of money/jobs for the villages around whom do seem to be happy, and proud that it is on thier doorstep. Unlike in the UK, where homes near some race-tracks do their damnedest to get them closed down.

If the English joined the EU currency then there would be nuff money here to support the ring ;-)

The orginal article isn't about the 'The 'Ring', it's about the Nurburgring F1 track, and that is, pretty much, just another race track...

Er, can I just draw attention to the fact that a paltry £13m for a world-reknowned and respected automotive testing and race facility is being deemed 'illegal state aid', but a sixty BILLION Euro bailout for the Spanish banks is totally ok?

Stop talking sense!

As usual with any publicly funded project, the vast sums of money now owing were spent on non track related add-ons, hotels, conference facilities etc. All of which the track is now lumbered with.

Really, you think the current green movement that the EU have wholesale bought into isn't a threat?
So the biggest green issue the EU is facing is a people driving around a toll road in Germany?
In reply to this and the post above, you and I know it's not but your thinking logically, that isn't the way EU bureaucrats think. Trust me, closing the ring would be a massive PR win for the greenies.

I know, what idiot would buy the best of Top Gear when EVERYBODY KNOWS its repeated on Dave. Thus saving you money and enabling you to enjoy the ramblings of Sir Clarkson over and over again

My worst fear is that the EU may just be using the Rings current financial woes as an excuse to shut the place down. I can't imagine a place that allows people to just turn up and drive cars very fast with little in the way of legislative involvement is very popular with the bureaucrats in Brussells. In fact I'd imagine there are quite a few EU greenies and Health and Safety nannies who are probably apocaleptic at the continued existence of the place.
My advice? Take the foil hat off and go outside for a bit of a stroll.

As a bona fide Online Doctor I'd also recommend avoiding the Daily Mail and Express if you can.

Much love smile
Really, you think the current green movement that the EU have wholesale bought into isn't a threat? You think that the continued interference of the EU on things like crash legislation or emmissions is all made up too? These changes are already having a massive impact on the automotive industry and the cars they are allowed to produce.

I predict the Ring will cease to exist in it's current "turn up and drive" format within the next 10 years at most.

Well the EU must have a serious issue with the German Autobahns then. Anyone can turn up and drive just as fast as they like there too (although power-sliding around corners might cause a few problems), and if you bounce off a few Armco barriers you are not going to get a massive bill through the post.

Excuse my ignorance...

What is the financial link between the Nordschleife and the Nurburgring Circuit.

Which bit is in debt, is it both?

It is not a case of the greenies and EU spongers prioritising the ring as a green issue. It is a case of having a pop at the ring...and that chance will be taken 100%

This would be a great shame, it was like a ghost town when I went to the new development in May last year. I can't see them just abandoning such an amazing circuit though surely!
