It's really not

I think kens biggest problem is trying to make it perfect and everyone knows that means 20 practice runs . Maybe a back to basics approach is what he needs. I'm tired of big money productions
Perhaps they need a couple of crashes to liven things up a bit.
To be honest a separate "outtakes" video would be quite entertaining and would perhaps show a few people that it's not all as easy as he makes it look.

I thought there was one of the one couple they did?

The number of people commenting on this thread who have evidently not bothered to read beyond the title of the article beggars belief.

Block vs Kimi.

Not particularly thread relevant but entertaining anyway.

rofl so fking true!

I can't believe how many "enthusiasts" are slating this guy & his videos.
i agree i'd love to see how many of these so called experts could go and do what he does....long live Kenny from the block!
+10. I love these videos but I also have my own imagination and creativity, how does that work?!

Long live the Block...
+1. Can't really see any reason to dislike the videos he produces.

It's just pathetic wannabe racing driver 'purists' who have a superiority complex about it because 'oooh it's not as hard as real racing'.

And surely the people saying he needs to do something new, is a bit like saying "Well, we've all seen how amazing Federer is at tennis, but he's won so many times now so he should try something else".

He's talented, has (and makes) a lot of money and has many fans.... therefore I'm pretty sure he will continue.

Those of you calling for a competition for Gymkhana; that was the original purpose of the first gymkhana Impreza.

The original car was built for Block to participate in a Gymkhana competition series which was running in the US, however the series collapsed before the car was completed thus Block had a finished car and nothing to do with it. He rented an airfield for a couple of days, bought some cameras along and voila, the gymkhana video series was born.

In 2010 Block ran a gymkhana event (in the US) under the name "Gymkhana Grid" where competitors ran a "gymkhana circuit" (which is basically an autotesting circuit) in a head-to-head format. Here is the video of the finals of the day with Block facing off against Tanner Foust:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnhB0aoSUb0

This format is back in 2012 where the series is coming to Europe. There are qualifiers at a few European events (the UK qualifiers are at Trax in September) with a final to be run at Santa Pod in October, featuring Block and Vaughn Gittin Jnr. (who I assume will be running in the RWD class).

God I'd hate to live in your world where people don't do things like this more than once because they get "boring". It had plenty of new stuff in it. How many people get to shut large parts of a big city like that for a hoon. That alone was worth the watch.

Bit of advice (and yes I'm in a grumpy mood here). This is a forum, feel free to have your say on the forum. By writing this story all you have done is turn up to a discussion with a mega-phone saying "LISTEN TO ME, MY OPINION MATTERS MORE THAN YOURS".

Roll on Gymkhana 6 through 10 and beyond. Personally I can't wait, both because they are spectacular to watch and they piss miserable people off by the look of it.

I was just struck by the fact while watching that the sporting loves of my life - motorsport and skiing - are two activities where even grown men can get away with dressing like Teletubbies.

I love Ken Block videos, and the last one was bloody excellent, it's not everyday you get to see one of the major citys in the world being closed down so someone can scream around in a rally car just for the fun of it. And that is what it's all about, fun, it's not a rally stage, and it's not meant to be serious. I really don't see why you think this is boaring.

Sounds like some pistonheads members and some staff are more suited to watching eastenders. If so many of ye are sick of the same style of his videos why bother watching? Is it purely so that you can run to pistonheads and have a moan?

When I originally opened the youtube link i had a fair idea of what i was going to get, a ford sliding around some obstacles with loads of super slow shots in line with his other videos and thats pretty much what I got. As I viewed it I was not in super critical mode as most pistonheaders seem to have been in(ohh look at all the tyre tracks, ive seen this before, hes sh!t at rallying bla bla bla). Instead I appreciated the video for what is was, a talented driver hooning around one of the nicest cities in the world, especially the amazing city backdrop and the camera work.

Why does his videos always have to be compared to 1980s rallying, why can it not be enjoyed for what it is. I reckon its just pure jealousy

Sorry I have to disagree, I thought Gymkhana 5 was an awesome video and I'm glad someone is still out there doing crazy car stuff in a world of increasing unproven eco and over the top 'elf n safety madness.

Now what I'd really like to see is a Chris Harris On Cars Video response to this...maybe him in that C63 Black Series slithering his way around say - to keep the budget down - Bristol, he could even start out on the Clifton suspension bridge. I'm sure you can come up with better but if PH thinks these videos are boring reply and show Ken how it's done!

I have popcorn waiting.

I agree with this completely! poor article by Dan Trent - he should be embracing something like what Block is doing not moaning about it. Silly Dan "the clown" Trent.

I absolutely agree with this.

It's meant to be entertainment, which it is.

No doubt if it were Chris Harris doing the driving the majority on here would be bashing one out over it.

I must admit, as much as I love the engineering in the Gymkhana car, I was so bored watching this, even the sideways jump did nothing for me.

I think the preachy "Anything with a car sliding around is good and everyone into cars should think it's amazing or you are a cretin" attitude that some posters are taking on is really poor form. It is the same thing we've seen many times before, just because it's another official Ken Block production doesn't make it amazing by default.

There's an idea. Let Monkey loose with the Eunos around Tesco's car park when it's a bit damp.

Yes, I totally agree.

The first couple were entertaining, no doubt about that, but we've seen it 4 times previously now and it's hardly breaking new ground compared to the others.

To say "anyone who says it's boring shouldn't be here" is just moronic.

Fully agree, and quite surprised how virulent some of the responses are to those that dont love the video. Some stunts are more remarkable than others and show the limit really being pushed, I for one think the bloke who jumped his motorbike up a building in Vegas then turned around and dropped back down yikes is the current hero!

Found a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiuH0jrQCCk if interested.
