God I'd hate to live in your world where people don't do things like this more than once because they get "boring". It had plenty of new stuff in it. How many people get to shut large parts of a big city like that for a hoon. That alone was worth the watch.
Bit of advice (and yes I'm in a grumpy mood here). This is a forum, feel free to have your say on the forum. By writing this story all you have done is turn up to a discussion with a mega-phone saying "LISTEN TO ME, MY OPINION MATTERS MORE THAN YOURS".
Roll on Gymkhana 6 through 10 and beyond. Personally I can't wait, both because they are spectacular to watch and they piss miserable people off by the look of it.

Watch this instead. This is a PROPER motorsport video:

Which reminds me... Compared to other racing formulas, current F1 tyres have a very dorky-looking high profile https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIoO_N8bSP0&fe...
There is another thread about closing cities for cyclists, the authorities would love that versus some nutter in a Fiesta doing skids.
I love the Ken Block videos, great camera work, as long as you treat it as a different genre its great, it is like rallying distilled down to the cool bits, no lurking in forests drinking tepid coffee and getting wet, I think a lot of what we do these days is "just the highlights" and loses something for not having the anticipation and boredom, still good but its like geting a Pork chop and not having to work through the bone and gristle to get to the nice bit.

4 cars a circuit, with plenty in the way of obstacles and drama, similar to ROC but with X-Games flair. Isn't that what you wanted, or does it have to be 2 lane?
Its silly, but fun to watch.
2 lane KO comp with Gymkhana circuits exactly how Block would set them out (old airfields, embanked racetracks, etc). Someone already mentioned Japan, not sure if this is how they do it over there? Its silly, but fun to watch.
Anyway this is all what it would take for me to be interested in number 6.
there you go.

It's really not
I think kens biggest problem is trying to make it perfect and everyone knows that means 20 practice runs . Maybe a back to basics approach is what he needs. I'm tired of big money productions
Perhaps they need a couple of crashes to liven things up a bit. I think kens biggest problem is trying to make it perfect and everyone knows that means 20 practice runs . Maybe a back to basics approach is what he needs. I'm tired of big money productions

We'll be honest here. When we heard that Ken Block was making another iteration of his gymkhana video series, we were a little cynical.
Sure, the master of the art of hoonery has become an internet sensation over the years, and his ability to make a hugely powerful 4wd rally car do hilarious things is broadly unparalleled. But (whisper it) we were getting just a little bored of it all, so we thought Gymkhana Five might be a mild disappointment.
It's not. The reason? Block's taken his 650hp Fiesta onto the streets of San Francisco, and any project that gets the Bay Bridge closed specifically for the purposes of hooning earns our eternal respect. Plus, some of the jumps as he careers around the famously hilly city are truly giggleworthy.

What to say about Ken Block's Gymkhana Five? Posted up on July 9, at the time of writing this just 10 days later it's showing over 21m views. Am I the only one of those millions who, after the first minute or so, found themselves thinking "yeah, so what"?
I found it a weird sensation, for sure. After all, what's not to like about some gratuitous, beautifully filmed hooning by an incredibly skilled driver who, thanks to the power of his brand and the internet, can get large parts of one of America's major cities closed off simply so he can do some donuts for a YouTube film?
And yet, there I was. Bored.

Long live the Block...
how can you be bored of what Ken is doing - it is much more entertaining than watching the procession that is F1/Moto GP (both of which I do actually quite enjoy if only for a few laps and not the entire race distance). Rallying itself must be a "boring" sport in your opinion then, as there are no overtakes/coming togethers with other competitors - just driver and car against the clock - which is basically what Ken is doing but without the stop watch. Boring?! think its time you moved out of the car media game and started working for womens weekly.
I drove a lot of the roads shown in a white automatic Chevy Malibu hire car and remember wondering what it would be like to get chance to drive something decent at speed without worrying about traffic or being involved in one of those awful generic San Francisco car chases you see in films - I guess Ken has just shown me and I'm jealous.
Fair play to him for getting chance to do this for fun and work at the same time, I don't care how many people chastise him or yawn at this but I bet most would love to have the opportunity to do the same with his abilities if they had the opportunity to do so.

Never mind his abilities, I'd be happy to try it with mine The car may be dented slightly but I don't care.Fair play to him for getting chance to do this for fun and work at the same time, I don't care how many people chastise him or yawn at this but I bet most would love to have the opportunity to do the same with his abilities if they had the opportunity to do so.
Smash's DIY Gymkhana guide V1.0
Start!
1. Hard acceleration
2. Cut to interior shot of Ken grimmacing and pulling large 60's B movie lever
3. Cut to exterior shot of perfectly executed slide* narrowly missing something solid/immovable
4. Cut to 300 frame per second slo mo of car doing the same drift
5. Cut to different angle of car doing the same drift
6. Finally cut to close up of obscure car part moving in ways you get the impression it shouldn't be able to (doing the same drift)
7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 for 10 to 15 minutes alternating * with a jump/coordinated manouvere with other moving vehicle.
