Great station car. One to park up and forget about but still capable of entertainment.

Stick a cherry bomb exhaust on it, cut the springs and put a body kit on it - job done

8V version was the first car I chose and bought myself.
Enjoyed it, but reliability got the better of me, it would occasionally just conk out, only to start up absolutely fine a couple minutes later.
I still think the car itself looks good in the right colour, but I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy driving one now.

The standard wheels I had were crap, and had the lacquer peeling off them! hehe

Love it, the look has aged well, and the colour really suits the car IMHO :getscoat:
Great combination of knackered and sporty, with some mods too. Price is optimistic, though.

needs a paint job and a debadge, private plate, a bit of engine work and perhaps suspension/wheels and you have an awesome little hot hatch for playing around in.

Something slightly leftfield, and for that reason, I reckon it's pretty cool.
That's true enough.
Shame bout the colour though.
I agree, but it is kinda funky funky!

My maths teacher used to have one exactly like that, same colour, spec, wheels, etc.

Compared to the usual bland array of cars in the staff car park, it definitely did stand out!

Personally, not my cup of tea, but fair play to those who dare to be different!

Same tremendous ABF engine as my Passat. Weighs a "shed" load less than my car though! Much better than the lardy Mk3 Golf equivalent. Back arches can rust badly on the Ibiza. Other than that not much to go wrong if looked after.

My dad had one back in 2001, I (as an 18 year old back then), loved driving it - not that I was allowed to that often biggrin
You drove a car when your dad was 18??? confused
How do you come to the conclusion that my dad was 18? Would you care to read what I wrote again?
This is comedy, plain English that is completely confused.
Have to admit I read it as that the first time round too! It's that 'I' lurking behind the open bracket that I missed...

Amazed anyone would care about the colour or interior of a shed. Remember this is 'shed of the week' not 'car to cherish and look back at of the week'.

Personally I don't give a fk about what a car I buy at this level looks like as long as it drives well, is reliable and I fit in it.

I had one from new back in 1998, a red 16v. I loved it, it was a hoot. I miss it quite a bit even now and was recently idly toying with the idea of getting another one.

Now I've seen it on SOTW I realise I'd be lucky to find one left in any fit state to live up to my memories.

Love it,a proper Hot Hatch that stands out from the crowd.I bet you could spend ten times that and not have as much fun.I think the obscure hatches will be getting collectable in the near future.

Now off to Auto Trader to look for a Satria GTI imo the greatest hatch of that era due to its outragous tacked on wheel arches.I have never owned one but hear they are a hoot to drive. My Xsara VTS,a Satria GTI and a ZX 16v and my fantasy hot hatch collection would be complete.

I owned a copper 16v GTI for just over a year in 2006. As it was the GTI it had air con, sunroof and mine had the optional cloth recaro interior.

It was on 71k when I bought it, put 12k on it in a year and sold it for what I paid, great little honest car.

BUT, as a warm/hot hatch it really didn't rate it. The 2.0 16V lump feels very reluctant to rev and long geared, and really spoilt it for me. It was quick enough, but I was expecting a modern feeling mk2 golf GTI 16v, which sadly, it was not.

The example listed would be a interesting for 400 quid, but not for a grand.

I like the colour, it gives the car a period piece feel. It couldn't be less like the sort of car I'd buy, but at least it is unusual.

I like your taste...what about a BX 16 valve as well? Surely one of the most
under-rated (and rare) hot hatches ever made...

I remember when that colour was popular for the Max Power brigade to respray their Novas, 5 Turbos etc.

The kit cars looked amazing though

Kit cars was an amazing period in rallying why they do not bring something similar back is a bit strange, the cars were actually quite cheap in relative terms and a marketing dream as a near identical model could be bought from a showroom, but the French did it best....
