Gentlemen

Can we get back to the matter in hand here, as amusing as it may seem PH is not the place to single out a particular individual...unless it's one of the PH team of course hehe

Back on topic please smile
Clearly I did.

Just wondering why you picked my comment to make your point? especially when there were far more scathing comments from others. I will also add, that my comment was meant in good humour & no malicious intent towards the O.P.

And the obvious irony that it was 300 himself who started the personal slanging match...

I'm think I know what Dan Trent means aside from the location & the obvious skills he demonstrates we've seen before, yes long power slides, or drifting vids, yes donuts around something or someone, yes we've seen it all before, and indeed where else or what else can he do, he's not a one trick pony, he has 5 or 6 tricks, I can't say I've seen them all, or remember them all, but I was a bit bored after a few minutes and had I not seen the "wow 11.04" type comments in the YouTube comments would've probably turned it off.

Now that said to anyone he says anyone could do what he's done, well no, that would be copying, and to be fair it's his idea, he did it first, he executes it, he's a good showman, understands the media and publicity, he's a talented driver.

The trouble is that's not enough if he is to be mentioned or compared to Loeb or even Kimi as a "legend" or "great", then the only test can be against his peers or against the clock against his peers. And he's not in their class, if it can't be measured with a clock a tape measure or first to cross the line, its not a sport (like drifting, motorX freestyle - brave, talented, skillful, but it's entertainment) It reminds me of a thing i read about an unbreakable cycling record, from 30s, the single year distance record, my first thought was couldnt he break anybody else's record over a shorter distance, is that all that was left that he could set/ break? Wiggins wins the tour (defacto f1/world cup of cycling), he's the best. Block brings out another gymkhana vid that's entertainment, which is not knocking it, but if all that changes is the location and nothing new like a new trick then maybe it's time to stop. Quit while you're ahead. I think that's Dan's point.

Someone said look what he's done for WRC, what exactly? WRC is dying on its ass, 1 possibly 2 manufacturers maybe, no TV deal, no promoter, little interest, even rallying in general has lost its way. I was listening to Radio Le Mans podcast the other day and it was saying watching Motorsport these days people demand that it is exciting and entertaining all of the time and that it cannot interesting in itself, and thats rallying, Block is the flipside to that like a really mental Russ Swift. His actual rallying honours simply wouldn't warrant the column inches indeed we wouldn't know who he was and we wouldn't talking about him.

No Ken, you're not a rally driver. Rally drivers have skill. The only reason you look remotely skilled on your stunt shows I'd because you practice them hundreds of times. When you actually try and do proper men's rallying you always crash because you cant deal with an unpredictable route. Now shut up and go have another can of Monster, you annoying little

I don't normally look at profiles but it was advised I do look at yours.

I now have visions of a long haired man in a cowboy hat, spitting tobbaco and getting mad at a computer screen to the point of capilaries bursting in his nose, screaming obsceneties in a brummie accent. I don't know where the accent came from but it seems to suit the hilarious vision in my mind.

On a serious note, why do people get so mad at people who seem quite nice and friendly? Is it a money thing?

Tbh, I think people are just bored of seeing the same thing - response was a lot more positive for two than one, and three got some applause, but it's just dragging now. I think the "This is amazing, if you don't like this you are an idiot" attitude from a lot of the Block-heads has worn a bit thin for many too.

roflroflroflrofl . Ken Block has no skill? WTF are you on? I wish I had a quarter of his talent, the guy is very skilled, not just behind a motor, but business wise too. Long live Kenny from the Block.

Man starts business, sells quality products, makes stacks of cash.
Then spends some of that stack on rallying, and another stack on making well produced videos of him burning rubber in powerful cars.
Ends up competing at World Championship level.

What's the problem again? I'm confused.

Why so much anger? He may not be going to win a WRC title, but he has done well enough to score points, infact points in every race he has enterd this year, and so what if his videos are much the same. There is only so much you can do in a car and it's not like he is charging people to watch them, or they are on TV when something else could be on. Its youtube lunch brake wasteing stuff.

very talented, love the control he has over the car... but I remember being entertained watching the origional Audi Quattro with Stig Blomqvist in 1984 .. who, lets face it was the Daddy..

.. then there was the likes of Juha Kankkunen, Ari Vatternan & Carlos Saints (basically the old school WRC "Masters") .. all of who I rank above Mr Block when it comes to skill & car control in my book

To be fair, he said "I'm a rally driver at heart". That's quite a different statement to simply "I’m a rally driver", so those missing out the full context & quote are no better than gutter press journos just trying to score cheap points.

I'm the first to admit that after the first Gym video, I was a little bored by the sequels.... however, getting permission to hoon around the streets of SF and taking full advantage of that deserves respect. He's driving the wheels off a 600bhp loony machine, in an iconic city, without reprisals, who wouldn't want to do that?!

Whether he succeeded at WRC or not doesn't diminish his clear talent, the same as it doesn't Kimi's. It's refreshing to hear him say that he know's he's not the best and that because of that, he's worked to earn the money to do what he loves for fun, rather than as a professional competitor. Terrific honesty.

I don't know him, but from what I've seen, he's a thoroughly likable fellow, who's done well for himself, is indulging his passion and sharing it with those of us who only wish we could do exactly the same. Fair play Ken, thumbup

Sometimes there just isn't more. I mean what do you want, jet packs, Star Trek style teleporters or the car ending in a huge fireball of an explosion?

Or lets recap:

-a car
-a person
-an area of ground to drive it on

Remembering:

-they don't want to kill themselves
-the laws of physics

What exactly do you want him to do new? Sing a song... dance a jig... some stand-up maybe???
So true. And also, BECAUSE OF SITES LIKE PISTONHEADS, people think there's a one-in/one-out system in operation here. Ken's boring now so he's supposed to stop making and marketing his brands and let someone else 'enter' the media circus. Quite a ridiculous notion I think you'll agree.

In the interest of full disclosure; how much ad revenue has Pistonheads made from the web traffic generated from linking 'stories' to Kens videos?

Can I also have a list of WRC drivers who have created and marketed one or more international brands at the same time as competing AND living outside of Europe?

I never heard him once say he is a good rally driver, he says he needs more experience, so what is all the hate about, or have you just not watched the interview?

Where does this "hate" idea come from?

Nobody other than the daft lad at the start has said anything about hate.

Feelings of "meh" are not hate, they're dissapointment. So, given the ingredients, let's see something special for a final dish.
