I'm coming to this from a bike angle, but applying it to cars.

My understanding is that if a number plate fits all the criteria of a legal plate, but DOESN'T have the manufacturers name and post code, it doesn't count as a plate and you could be prosecuted for not displaying a number plate?

Does that mean if you put ten of these "illegal" plates, all with different numbers on, on your car, plus one plate that is completely legal showing the cars actual plate, are you breaking the law?

I know what I think, but internet opinions would be appreciated

No idea about the legality of itt but I know you'd never get where you're going; you'd spend more time at the side of the road having been pulled by plod.

The law requires that a legal plate is fitted - to the required specification and in the correct location.

You can then fit as many other "signs" as you wish.

So, yes, it is legal.

And yes, you are very likely to get pulled. Regularly.
