Please don't send me to the Net of Mums! I've been on there and it's a scary place eek

My Boyfriend and I are expecting our first child in Feb and are looking at baby seats.

Being petrol heads we went straight for the Recaro ones but are curious as to what you guys would recommend.

All advice would be much appreciated biggrin

Can't recommend the recaro seats highly enough. We have a new born one and the next version up awaiting our daughter to go in. Really impressed with them and won't be putting my daughter in anything else.

We have had maxi cosi, ISo fix for when the little pughs were small, and we needed to change fromcar to car, expensive but worth it.

We now have a Recaro for the 3.5 year old and booster seat for Tom who is tall for his age at almost 6.

Buy the best you can afford always, it's a very precious cargo!!

We have this for our littler girl, whose nearly a year old now.

I cannot tell you how much of a good idea the 90 degree swivel thing is, makes it very easy to get her in and out. Only down side is its not from birth (4 or 5 months on a think). Go have a look at one in mother car. As for the Recaro ones......there rubbish.

Been looking into this myself and the maxi cosi cabriofix comes out well. You can get adapters to get it to fit most travel systems.

Thanks folks

I think it's a toss up between the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and the Recaro Young Profi Plus.

Now to decide if the Isofix base is worth the extra cash wobble

as soon as your young one is old enough get them straight into a recaro young sport - the seat is sorted until they are about 11 years old - seriously!!

Look for a second hand isofix if you can. They are bloody handy when it's pouring rain. I have the Maxi Cosi Cab seat and isofix. Will you be using it with a pushchair?

And Congrats!! smile

The Recaro's don't seem to score well, so we avoided them.

The turning seat looks ace, but we wanted to stick with a rear-facing seat so went with the Be-Safe izi combo isofix. It's ace and scores very well, aprticularly for safety. http://www.johnlewis.com/231445982/Product.aspx

If you have ISOFix in your car, buy a base for the car seat you go with. It makes it so much easier to get it in and out of the car.

We have this seat: http://www.maxi-cosi.co.uk/gb-en/products/car-seat...

With this base: http://www.maxi-cosi.co.uk/gb-en/products/car-seat...

The good thing is that we can reuse the base when it comes to getting the next seat up: http://www.maxi-cosi.co.uk/gb-en/products/car-seat...

The other thing that's good is that you can use the smaller of the two seats I've linked to with lots of buggies. We have this combo: http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-stokke-maxico... This means his Lordship can be taken out of the car asleep and popped straight on to his pushchair without waking him.

There are lots of good seats out there, it's the only thing that we didn't buy used though. Like a crash helmet, it's too risky to buy something like this with an unknown history. If you do buy used, buy from a friend.

Maxi Cosi isofix when they're little, then Kiddy for when they are next size up.

We had a Jane Matrix when the kid was titchy - they lie flat in them, which is better for the little one - they always look slumped over themselves in the sit up seats when they are little - and that's because they are! They fit on the Jane pram system, but we'd already bought a pram when we discovered the lie-flat seat, so we just used it in the car.

Great for long journeys too - we went to Edinburgh when she was 4 months and she had a full 3 hour sleep; it's effectively a bed in the car. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Now she just has one from Asda - not sure what make it is. She says it's comfortable, and it's all black so it looks neat.

Invest in a £1 Which trial subscription, which is cancellable after 30 days. They did a huge test on 100+ seats which we found really useful.

Recaro.... but don't just take my word for it. Go into John Lewis / Halfords where they have Recaros is stock. Using your hand, push down on the seat cushion and note the thickness. Then do the same on every other seat. Then ask yourself which you'd like to sit in for a long time smile
