Unless someone is a complete p**k why would it cause you any problems? If they are travelling at X speed then you can overtake them by going at X+10.....

So you don't overtake any car which is as fast or a little faster than your car?

How ridiculous.

On single lane roads, yes. it's very rare to come across something as quick which is going too slow. How often do you find proper performance cars being driven at half the speed limit? And if it's going a bit under the limit, why the impatience? It would just look like your trying to race and if you can't get past you look a bit of a tt to be honest.

He's got an Evo, people with Evos don't generally believe in the existence of anything faster than their car.

Well Lotus Elise's have never been a problem :redcard but there are plenty of other cars out there quicker. I just don't need to prove a point by nailing everyone I think is going too slow.

Get a DD with a minimum of 400lb ft of torque and this issue is a non-starter...;)

What about a scenario where you're doing the speed limit and the car behind decides you're not going fast enough and goes for the overtake and fails. Surely they only have themselves to blame?

If youre that bothered OP buy a faster car then and/or learn to drive properly. If not chill out and stop trying to overtake every car you have decided is going too slow- as they might just embarrass you. Remember you can't change the behaviour of others. On Tuesday I was overtaken on an nsl single carriageway, it was wide enough for cars to pass in both directions simultaneously, though there were only the two of us at that time. I was pootling along just over the limit, even though the road was good for 80+, as I do not know the area well enough to know the scammer hideouts. The other guy had pulled out from the right after I passed on the main road, did his 'yo vtech' and eventually went flying past in a perfectly safe way. On the approach to the roundabout he was a couple of hundred yards ahead, by the exit I was on his arse. The road then narrowed and began to curve, he then proceeded along at fiftyish and held me up until he turned off a couple of minutes later.

Twenty miles or so later a luton sized van spotted me catching him up on a straight, slowed, indicated left and waved me past just before we reached a nice set of downhill bends.

Just goes to show you really cannot tell what another driver will do in an overtaking situation.

I should think not, they don't attract that kind of driver (not even the ones that could cause you a problem if driven by a dick).

The wife hates me overtaking. I accelerate hard at the back of the car in front before moving over (leaving suitable distance ofc). For some reason she thinks I'm trying to thrutch the car in front in the boot.
Another way might be to consider dropping a gear or two and loading the revs up so you're in the power band and will be able to gain speed a fair bit quicker as you move out. If you're rapidly gaining speed behind someone and he slows for some reason or you realise you're not going to be able to get out and do the move after all it could end badly.

To be fair though, it does take some serious firepower to see off an Evo. I tend to judge drivers more by both their car and they manner of driving. Ie: are they a player or a spectator? Driving in a relaxed style or a driving like a knob? Likely to assist me in passing or likely to 'have a go'?

Mind you, if the opportunity to pass is there and it is safe I will usually go for it.

Gone are the days when folks would ease off and give you a left signal to let you know you're good to go. It still happens, but it's rare.
When it does happen I almost feel like getting out and giving them a hug. It's almost always old chaps in flat caps driving smaller cars, too. Even got a thumbs up as I went past once too. It is a really nice feeling when people do respond well to you driving a quick-ish car progressively but non-aggressively. It seems not everyone is taught that driving is about sharing the roads and give and take, a lot of people seem to think they are islands and the 'sea' for two car-lengths radius is their sovereign territory.

I've got to say, I was in a hurry a while ago and I was driving quite fast through the B roads, when people saw how quickly I came up behind them they indicated left to let me pass. Happened three times and made me feel a lot better, considering I was hurrying for a medical emergency.

I had someone do this to me last week which isn't unusual, but what was unusual was that it was a learner driver in a fully marked up driving school car with her instructor on a dual carriageway!
Coming onto a long straight dc off a roundabout the learner was in front pottering as to be expected and not looking comfortable with going round the roundabout so I waited until we hit the 2 lanes and went into the 2nd lane to go past.
At this point she was doing probably 40 on a nsl dc but when I came level with the car (steady overtake) she floored it so much that she ended up undertaking a car in the outside lane! (doing 80 leptons)
I was astonished on 2 counts, the first being learner driver wtf? And the 2nd being how quick the driving school focus could motor so even when I sped up it wasn't enough.
Came to next roundabout on dc and instantly she wavered all over the road and went round at crawling pace looking like a typical learner.
Back on next straight ( I was ready this time) full bore acceleration up to and over nsl?
Never seen anything like it nor do I expect to again.

When I came past eventually, I noticed the instructor was a typical middle aged fella but the pupil looked like nanny from duckula.

Just nail it past and ignore any light flashing or speeding up on their part.
A chap in a black Audi A4 estate did just this on my route home the other day whilst I was on the bike. I thanked him with a wave after I'd passed. Thanks again, if you're out there.

A 111R wouldn't be a problem even if it did try to stop an overtake

Hang on, its not my fault PH is full of impatient knobs incapable of performing an overtake (without whinging about it).

There is nothing wrong with overtaking. I fail to see why you are siding with the terminally stupid. Please stop trolling.
