As a general rule I don't really like Audi's, but this would seem to be a much better proposition to me.
even the drug dealer rear glass cant hide how dull that car looks, oozes beige from its perfect shut lines smile
Audi recently released a book about their colour chart, it's called 50 shades of grey........

The Evoque is infinitely more fun than the competition in this segment. It's a premium product with a premium price and offers a premium ownership experience. Why resent that?
For a non petrolhead I would completely agree with you, however they seem to have forgotten the premium engine.

On reflection I guess that new car prices are just going up, so yes it is a Premium Freelander, but it is not a budget Range Rover.

Or, take off the blinkers and see it this way:

Rural, serial 3 series touring owner wants a similarly well-spec'd and screwed together motor that won't see them spending two to three months a year worrying about not being able to leave the house/get back home again, or bending wheels on potholes.

This is what Mrs Digga did. Bought a 'sensible' spec Ewok, loaded with more gizmos than her last BMW and it cost her less than she payed for a top-spec 320d in 2007. Okay it's a teeny bit thirstier and doesn't handle quite as well, but both of these difference, in the real, day-to-day commute, are marginal.
I'm not sure what's blinkered, I gave my opinion as to why I don't like it as a product, but finished off saying that it's great for JLR, so that's a good thing. We're not all sheep and we all have different needs / wants from our cars, so it's good that we all have our own different opinions thumbup

I totally get the Full Fat RR, Disco, Defender & Freelander (just on the last one), but I don't subscribe to the fashion accessories that are the Sport & Evoque... HOWEVER, I'll say it again, if people buy these products and it helps the company, then good for JLR for marketing them smile

Harry Metcalfe had nothing but good things to say about the engines. I guess in this day and age a premium engine does not mean a big torquey supercharged V8. Although the twin turbo diesel or even the TDV8 would have been interesting.

I don't really like these. I'd like to drive one but not my cup of tea. As far as it being a business proposiotion for JLR though, fantastic. I think that Halewood is having to go to a 3-shift day to make enough of these !

There is a nice red with black roof 3 door that is local to me.
I think it's very smart.

Don't like it as much in grey as it doesn't do the shape much imo.

Of course you do realise it was just a special edition Evoque she was involved with and not the normal car? 'Victoria Beckham designed it' must be the new incorrect pub expert phrase these days smile

I have to concede that they look pretty funky! I hate the underlying 'image before ability' concept but it's likely to be another 'Mk1 Audi TT' or 'MINI' and sell bucket loads.

However, " is barely scraping into the teens on a more urban commute" ?? So we're talking 13mpg around town?? Now for a pretty small car by all accounts and without the sheer presence of a FF Range Rover, that is bleedin' awful!

My old 1996 Jeep Cherokee with a 4 litre engine that was crafted from solid moon-rock, could do that many!

That must be for bumper-to-bumper city driving...mine gets 24 mpg typically in an urban environment.

The Freelander is a completely different car. Aside from the fact that they share very few components, drive both back-to-back and the FL2 feels outdated, basic, less comfortable and wallows around corners. The RRE annihilates it in terms of handling, comfort and specification. They are similar in terms of off-road prowess but that is all. Bottom line it is very clear that the two LR stable mates are very different cars - much like comparing the Defender to the Discovery 4 or RRS. The FL2 is a good LR for the segment it occupies but the RRE is most definitely in a different league in luxury terms.

The RRE is not just a 'budget' RR...it is a smaller option RR for those who don't need nor want the larger varieties. The RRS is not more luxurious and doesn't have a greater spec than the RRE. It is simply larger...albeit, the rear seating is actually smaller...The FFRR is more luxurious and does have a greater spec but, like the RRS, is aimed at those who want a better off-roading/towing or just larger vehicle overall.

I've had the larger LR's and ultimately didn't like their size - too much was wasted on a daily basis with just me in it. I also didn't need the 4x4 ability that was never needed to that extent. So a FL2 seemed logical to me until the RRE came out and proved to be a true RR on back-to-back road tests with an FL2 and RRS (I owned a Disco 4 at the time). The RRE suited what I wanted from a LR 4X4; RR luxury and spec in a smaller, better handling package.

Engine not RR enough? The Si4 is faster than the SDV6 RRS, matches the 4.4TDV8 FFRR in straight line performance and beats both in handling!

I read an interesting Autocar article last week; 80% of JLR's production is exported, meaning we now actually have a positive vehicular net balance of payments here in the UK, despite all our german car shopping habits.

JLR is also now bigger than British Leyland were in 1976 or any time thereafter (in terms of equivalent monetary turnover).

So, although I don't fancy and nor can I afford a £46k evoque, if the Americans and Chinese can and do, good for them and great for the UK.

It's also good for JLR who are now building direct injection 5.0 supercharged v8's that I aspire to own now, and one day I'll have.

Sorry for the flag waving - I think the Olympics have been encouraging me. I'll put the flag down and go back into my corner!

So true, & all thanks to an Indian company by the name of Tata. So it'll need to be an Indian flag for you to wave wink

Why is it that you managed to get hold of one of these in colour but you didn't manage to get a proper picture of it???

All of the pictures were either out of focus or blocked out by something.

Why not spend a few minutes longer to get some proper photographs and cut down on the nonsense writing??

I've never seen one of these in colour before, and they could be quite good for all I know.

Surely the fact that it's only on the Internet is no longer an excuse for crap photography.

How long is this going to continue??

Why not get an enthusiast to take proper pictures for you??

The readers would love it, I know, I am one.

Just under 8 miles, slow (sub 40 mph) more often than not, lots of stopping, traffic lights etc but not gridlocked by any means.

Worst seen: 12.8
Best so far: 13.7

My Lexus LS400 is no better, but that's a '97 4.0 V8 not a modern 4-cylinder. I don't drive the RRE that often, but will see if it improves during our tenure.

A desirable luxury “product” that sells at a premium price and has a long waiting list. Best of all, it is made in Britain. Well done Jaguar Land Rover, keep it up.
This, without a doubt.
This, seconded.

Also... whether I personally like it or not (actually, I kind of do like the styling) - it at least LOOKS DIFFERENT. OK, it's following the two-tone, high-window-line fashion, but at least it's pushing the boundary a bit on what a car / SUV is/isn't, and the options for different designs. So many manufacturers that try this succeed (e.g. Audi TT, Boxster) - really hope it rubs off on more concept cars making it on to our streets and ensuring variety and choice.

As for the engine, God I hope they eventually release a version with a twin-turbo six cylinder diesel in it, or a 350BHP+ supercharged petrol.

Love it?
Loath it?
Hmmmmn.
Loath it.
Personally, whenever I see one coming the other way when I'm in my car, I point at it, start to laugh and cover my mouth (in an obvious fashion) to highlight to the (inevitable) Beckham wannabe that they are themselves a triumph of style over substance. Just like the Beckhams.
Honestly, how can you take seriously ANY car that that minger VB has had any 'input' in?
She has all the style of a burst blister.
Having said all that..... I applaud JLR for marketing it, and creating yet another niche.........
Oh yes, and the car is so strange looking, it makes small children whimper.
