You really do that? Haha seems a bit extreme to do each time you see a car. Not really my cup of tea, but then I wouldn't avoid being seen in one, life is too short :-P, nice place to be inside imo. My mum is getting one and has fallen in love with it, if it makes her feel good and does the car thing too, then good for her :-) although I have pleaded that for the money, there are a lot of other amazing options, but not necessarily in that niche. In that respect you gotta applaud JLR.

I had a 5 door dynamic last weekend with the petrol engine. I must say I was not looking forward to it but once I got in it i was pleasantly surprised. They engine was very punchy and very good low end torque. The car seems to grow once you get in it and doesn't feel so small once you are in it. Yes the panoramic roof does definitely help. The quality of the interior was very good, all in all I think its a good car, does feel like a premium product once you are in it and no different to Range rover sport. But 46k is slightly too much for it.

As with many here, I'm not a fan of the idea of a fashionable 2WD RR, but hats off to them, the marketing and execution have been done well. If I was going to by a compact SUV, It'd be this one.

Just under 8 miles, slow (sub 40 mph) more often than not, lots of stopping, traffic lights etc but not gridlocked by any means.

Worst seen: 12.8
Best so far: 13.7

My Lexus LS400 is no better, but that's a '97 4.0 V8 not a modern 4-cylinder. I don't drive the RRE that often, but will see if it improves during our tenure.
Exactly, regarding the Lexus. You'd expect it from a 15 year old V8 lexus (with a 20 year old engine design) but not from a 4-pot baby RRE. Let's hope it does improve or you may as well have a 'FF' RR or RR Sport.

Bit too much of a Chintzy fashion statement for me, but if it allows JLR to build more 'proper' Range Rovers then excellent.

I'd think this is a good alternative; (A6 Allroad)

As a general rule I don't really like Audi's, but this would seem to be a much better proposition to me.
You are saying that an Evoque is a "Chintzy fashion statement" and then suggest an A6 allroad as a more credible alternative???

rofl
The original allroad is a much more interesting proposition. Up to 8in ground clearance, low-range, the V8 (albeit detuned) from the S4/RS4, properly beefed up bumpers/skid plates, and the only car ever to complete the official Land Rover test course.

I would really quite like one of these and that would be my choice of colour too, reminds me of BMWs Estoril blue!

I totally get the Full Fat RR, Disco, Defender & Freelander (just on the last one), but I don't subscribe to the fashion accessories that are the Sport & Evoque... HOWEVER, I'll say it again, if people buy these products and it helps the company, then good for JLR for marketing them smile
Evoke is head and shoulders above the Freelander in terms of appointment and refinement. Staggeringly so IMHO.

If one needs a refined 4x4 but, for various reasons, does not want a larger one, then I do not see the Ewok as purely a fashion statement. That's my point. It happens to tick a lot of boxes that other cars (including the Freelander) cannot.

As a matter of interest, what boxes? It's hugely stylish (no denying) but it's small, not particularly spacious even in relation to its size, not particularly fast, not very economical and it's expensive.

Other than being cool I can't see it ticking many £40k boxes that aren't ticked many other cars.

I am not an Audi fan generally, but the Q5 ( and come to that the new BMW X3) seem to offer everything the Evoque offers and more. Granted, they are not as fashionable, but for me that is an advantage !

However, I cannot help but applaud such a UK sales success story. Thousands of families living in the Uk are directly or indirectly paying the mortgage and living their lives because of the stable employment the success of this car brings. So even though I don't like the car much and would take a Q5 over it every time, I'm still glad it exists.

You have to admire LR for the brass cheek to charge 46k for this car ! Profit margins must be considerable. Well done !

I like them a lot and will be following this with interest. In some ways though it comes across as a modern day Jaguar X-Type. Both are cheaper versions of bigger more expensive premium cars, and technically based on a Mondeo!

If you want to know what I think the Ewok has going for it, read the previous pages of this thread. I won't reiterate, for the sake of not cluttering the thread.

As for £40k, not all cost anywhere near that. Go on the LR site and 'build' a car. I can assure you that price/spec wise they're competitive with a 3 seriees BMW or similar.

A 4wd version starts around £31k. (SD4 190 Pure)

Audi A4 SE Technik 2.0 TDI quattro - Similar price (around £31k) - Significantly faster, more mpg, and vastly more luggage space.

Other than being 'cool' what does that Evoque have going for it?

(I have to add, I like the Evoque, but not for any practical, rational reasons)

Easy one to answer really, the RRE is a superior 4x4 to the Audi A4 Quattro. In fact, it is quite a good 4x4. I've driven Defenders in Africa and owned a Discovery 4. My Dad has had Jeeps, Defenders, D3's and now drives a Landcruiser and a Defender. Whilst the aforementioned 4x4's are better, the RRE doesn't embarrass itself and is very capable for the 4x4 needs of most users.

Having also driven the Audi A4 Quattro and got it stuck (was a funny journey with a colleague and got us out of work for the afternoon!) where the RRE simply doesn't get stuck, I would also throw into the mix that the RRE is a nicer car to drive generally.

I like Audi's and like the RRE's competition in the Q3/Q5. However neither of the Audi's feel as special to be in regardless of how well put together they are.

If having the absolute fastest SUV/car is your criteria then the RRE isn't gonna impress you when the X3 3.5i is available - the same with having the best-in-class road handling or luggage space. But for some - like me - who want the SUV with the best off-roading ability that also feels the nicest car to be in, the Evoque wins easily.
And aesthetics do count for a lot too and some of us prefer the RRE design to the competition; we all have our different tastes and this is as valid a reason as any when making a vehicle purchase. When choosing a house I don't go with the one that looks ugly just because it has an extra room! Same with cars...I won't choose one simply because it has a larger boot or is a little bit faster when the one I like has enough space and speed for my needs.

Baby came along so the wife bought an Evoque Si4 Prestige.

After six months, I can honestly say it's the best car we've ever owned. It's so well judged, the handling's great, the ride is astonishing after a few decades of Germans. Only the rather gruff engine lets the package down (it's so noisy once you rev it, you tend to just let it waft instead).

We were worried about a JLR product, but after 6 months and 15,000 miles, nothing's gone wrong.

Fabulous car.
