I prefer to think of it as having 'individual interests'

Driving a Corvette 4000 miles a year so gently you get 32mpg seems to miss the point of owning a V8 sportscar to me.
This happens a lot on here. I rather not drive than watch my mpg

Why? It's interesting to know. I use an Evo X as a daily driver. I see little point hammering it on the daily commute and driving like a dangerous asshole. So it does 30mpg+ Doesn't mean it always does that but these are genuinely interesting things to know. I've always fancied having a 'vette tucked in the garage for weekends and this just makes me want one more. Having something like a Clio Cup for the weeks and a C5 Z06 or C6 for the weekend is starting to appeal.

Conversely I don't see the point in exceeding the speed limit by much on the motorway, enjoy the car to the maximum on entertaining roads and manage to average around 30mpg.
At 4000 miles a year it's clearly a toy so why drive on motorways at all. . . . .

I've had my Z06 since last October, it's done nearly 10k in that time which I dont think is bad for a weekend car. Le Mans 3x, Germany with 170+ stints on autobahns, holland, and a week driving passes in the pyrenees the average mpg on the trip computer which I reset when I got it sits between 19 and 21.5mpg. ..... US of course. Overall it spends so little time accelerating as it gets there so quick (something you would know if had a quick car or bike) that the mpg on the motorway soon brings the average back up.

On the other hand my modded ZR1 last week drank over £100 on one not particularly long trip in bad weather so I wasnt even driving it hard.

Nothing wrong with a slow cruise enjoying the open top and noise. Plus of course nailing it goes without saying

Having recently said goodbye to my Corvette C5 (1999) prospective owners might be interested to see my total costs over more than 13 years and 52,000 miles of ownership.

Taking account of depreciation (I bought the car brand new in 1999), maintenance at official service centres with interim oil changes DIY, road tax, MOTs and insurance the total cost comes out as follows,

76p per mile for ownership costs
20p per mile for petrol

96p per mile.

I reckon that's absolutely astounding value for a sports car with Corvette performance and quality. It compares very favourable with the AA calculator which suggests £1.70 per mile!

These great cars should not be overlooked, especially following the demise of so many British sports cars.
excellent op ,
When i looked at V8's for the Capri conversion , i couldnt get my head around the mpg figures for the Corvetts
to put into perspective original v6 Essex producing 138 hp returns average of 20mpg
LS7 producing 500 hp returns average of 26 mpg !!

and on the plus side theres the sound

Ah, but under the dash, all Aussie RHD conversions are like this...

how is it that the Aussies can have RHD 'Vettes/f-bodies/'Stangs etc while when they're imported (officially!!!) over here we've got no choice but to have lhd? Not that it bothers me overly, I quite enjoyed the whole lhd thing wink

Priceless.

Good on the OP for posting the figures up, seems like a bit of a bargain to me.

IIRC it's a legal requirement for nearly all vehicles in Australia to have the wheel on the correct side.

Consequently there's a whole industry based around doing conversions. Stamping out new dashboards, fabricating RHD steering racks, headers, pedal boxes, wiring looms, you name it.

Some conversions are better than others of course!
