was out in my car yesterday, was a nice day so had the roof down. Car is a 03 plate bmw 330ci convertible, so not worth an awful amount of money.

Come along to a tractor parked in the road sorting out the straps on his trailer. Out of about 11 cars i had to wait for only 1 said thanks. Some others just look at you as if to say look at you show off. I get the same other times when drivng about.

What i don't get is half the cars on the road are worth more than mine, a 07 plate fiesta for example is worth more.

So, why give me a dirty look when you could of easily had a car like mine to.

You're reading into that far too much. Plenty of people don't thank me when I let them through - I drive a Punto.

People seem to thank each other up north, admittedly, less than a few years ago I've noticed. smile

I'm a long time TVR driver who had a brief stint in a Z3. It took me a while in the Beemer to work out what was different. In the TVR random people wave & smile almost constantly, and people will back up to let you out.

In the Beemer the exact opposite was true. I guess the marque as a whole pays for the high number of tossers that drive it. (Not all obviously, just more than fair share)

I detest bad manors (yes its spelt wrong).
When people don't thank me for doing them a favour I try to remember their car, just so I can deliberately not be polite to them the next time I'm in a similar situation.

I always forget the car though....

Why would they thank you? In their eyes their journey and life if far more important than yours. You are just another obstacle getting in their way of making it to B&Q to buy a better BBQ than the one their neighbors just got.

They don't care that you took time out and offered to make their trip a little easier.

Sounds more like you think it's something special and that everyone is jealous of you, just accept it some people don't say thankyou, who cares I always do but some people are too busy screaming at kids or driving takes up too much of their brain power for them to thank you.

ah fair enough. I think some of you are getting me wrong, that was my point, my car isnt anything special in my eyes, and worth far less than new fiestas etc yet there seems to be a big stigma that hangs over them and other people think your a snob for driving them. Ohwell.

I don't think it's a snob thing, just a BMW thing

Years old I got a company 3 series to replace my 2cv (bought as an insurance write off for £100).
Suddenly no one let me out of junctions and the world was a less friendly place.

When I had both my 330s I didn't notice any change in attitudes from other drivers at all. I was still let out of junctions and people moved over on the motorway as I approached them, but then I didn't drive like the stereotypical BMW driver so perhaps that had something to do with it?

Up here in the northern hemisphere we give other drivers a friendly flash or wave to say a 'thanks' if they have to wait/give way to us. It's what we do up here spin (well most of us anyway).
