It's not the car. Some people are oblivious, some are too maxed-out just steering the car to acknowledge you, some are just plain rude. It's no different to holding a door open for someone in a shop only for them to barge through without so much as a 'thanks'.

was out in my car yesterday, was a nice day so had the roof down. Car is a 03 plate bmw 330ci convertible, so not worth an awful amount of money.

Come along to a tractor parked in the road sorting out the straps on his trailer. Out of about 11 cars i had to wait for only 1 said thanks. Some others just look at you as if to say look at you show off. I get the same other times when drivng about.

What i don't get is half the cars on the road are worth more than mine, a 07 plate fiesta for example is worth more.

So, why give me a dirty look when you could of easily had a car like mine to.
I think the 3 series is probably one of the most common cars on UK roads. I've never noticed any difference with people letting me out in either my Alpina or Golf.

I think then in my case it must just been down to the fact common courtesy is a dying manner. I always thank people. Like what happened to me yesterday, i didn't have to wait, i could of suddenly barged through, granted i might of ended up losing one of the sides of my car lol.

I love the ultra-nervous women drivers (I'm not being sexist - it's always women) who will only release their vice-like grip on the wheel for a millisecond to give a thank you wave.

This is whats confusing me a bit.

Me personally, If the obstructions on my side then the on coming traffic has right of way, doesn't matter if its 1 car or 30. I don't expect any one to thank me for doing what I'm supposed to do, stopping and waiting for a gap to get past and generally don't thank people for doing this either.

If I forced my way past I'd def expect use of horn etc from the on coming cars.

If the obstruction was on my side and some one let me through any way then of course I would thank them and In situations where its 50/50 as to who's right of way it is (single track roads etc) then I always make sure I thank people, regardless of car driven and expect the same back, if I stop for them and they don't thank me then I may have a little man period in the privacy of my own car and then get over it.

Exactly. Why should they thank you when the obstruction is on your side of the road? If one of them had stopped to let you through (going out of their way), then thats a whole different matter. Make of your car is completely irrelevant.

I think people are generally rude! It winds me up. On a side note ive owned bmw's before, none of which were particularly expensive and people never thank you or let you out of side roads. I tend to find most BMW drivers are polite! More so than the Audi generation. Since i bought the Jag everyone is lovely, it must give off a gentleman image biggrin

Sadly, some of this can indeed be attributed to the BMW image - one that Audi is gradually building for itself as well.

The "average" BMW driver as perceived by others is a considerable factor in my choice of an XK rather than BMW. Indeed, on my regular 150 mile commute, the prat count is heavily weighted towards the two brands above (and their sheer numbers don't help matters).
