I bought my car with one clear fog light and one black/smoked/tinted fog light. I prefer the black one as it is on a black car looks quite good so I want to get the clear one looking the same, but I'm unsure what to use.

I came across tinting spray and read nothing but bad things about it's finish, which I didn't think would be an issue. The fog light is only small and it would never be under that much scrutiny.

Has anyone used this stuff and can give any advice? Or maybe there is an alternative to darkening the lens I am not thinking about?

The E-tech stuff is ok, available from Halfords.

Finish won't be a problem as long as you can spray things well with normal spray paint.

I've used it before and it can turn out brown, there is a few brands available.

We did a couple of fog lights before on a car that looked reasonable, you'll probably never match the finish so may be worth buying another light to replace the already tinted one (or try and remove the tint)

What car is it? Any photos?

From the inside would look better but you'd never manage it through the bulb hole.

I've used it before and had good results. Just take your time. Where you'll balls it up is whacking too much on too quickly. As with any paint, use light coats. The other thing to be careful of is too many coats. If it's too thick it will obscure the original light colour. I used red on some amber indicators and the first time, I put too many coats on. It flashed red and wasn't legal. The other issue is that it does fade under UV light so they need a light coat over every 12 months or so to "top it up".

Are they definitely both fog lights? A lot of cars only come with one working and an empty socket on the other side.

I got some quick pics.

EDIT: I realised I didn't say I was referring to the front, sorry.

Just so I'm clear with this, you want to tint (ie reduce the light output) a light designed to help you see and be seen in fog?

Can I suggest you replace the black one with a proper matching clear one and put safety in poor weather ahead of aesthetics?

I'd just replace the tinted light or remove both of them.

A mate of mine used his Mum's tights too. Not for lens tinting though.

I have thought about this.

While I do like the black one my decision came down to price.

To elaborate - As much as I am trying to find out, I do not know if they are sealed units or not. I also don’t know if I can buy a clear lens without buying an entire fog unit. I checked the prices on them and they certainly aren’t cheap. If you are able to tell me otherwise I would me more than happy to go clear. I’d rather just put a new lens in than mess about with spray paint. I just want them looking the same more than anything.

Just spray it. It's a front fog light. They're of no use to 99.9% of people 99.99999% of the time anyway. Whoever said something about safety needs to get a grip. I'd be more interested in the state of his tyres, brakes, suspension etc than whether one poxy light was giving out the correct level of light FFS!!

Theres a couple on ebay. I put some tinting film on my old 306's fogs to match the black headlights and it made it look a bit like a Rallye with blanks.
