What cheap tow car, for horsebox?
Discussion
Ultra juicy...
I reckon that when not towing (i.e. when needed in winter, or when another car is under repair), a Disco 300TDi should do close to 25MPG, while an Explorer is going to be closer to 15-18mpg, and I can't imagine a Cherokee will be any better. I also thought the Cherokee was perhaps a bit small for heavy towing, with a Grand being a better bet?
The Terrano seems like a good option, aside from being incredibly rot prone, and not especially visually appealing.
Should I avoid P38 Rangies like the plague, or are they not that bad?

My recommendation would be a 4.0 Cherokee. Ultra tough driveline, ultra cheap
Used to have one that ran LPG with a half and half tank. I quite liked it but it wasn't spacious inside. Rear springs can sag pretty easily. The one I had had uprated leaf springs on the rear which made it ideal for towing. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
