I have just bought a Hyundai coupe 2006, 2.0L and have come to insure it before picking it up later in the week, being 19 insurance was a large factor and that is why I went for the Hyundai as it is cheap to insure. Before buying one I spent a long time getting quotes and they were all around £1100, just gone to insure the car and they want an extra £300 and the only difference is that it is black and not silver.

Guess I should have checked what the insurance for the exact car would have been before putting down the deposit. The worse bit was I didn't even really want a black one, it was just this one which happened to be black was the right price, millage, service history. I guess you live and learn, don't buy a black car rolleyes So has anyone else had a similar experience?

Cheers James

I am sure I have never been asked what colour the car is when I have insured it to be honest. Are you sure its just not pricing changes between when you did your research and now?

I think that's a load of BS. My car is black and it made no difference to the insurance.

They won't need to if they have the registration number.

Nope I have just compared two cars, same age, same price, same everything except colour within 5 minutes of each other and £300 extra for the black one

I would have thought that silver should be more expensive to insure, due to never being able to get a decent paint match.

Anyway, this want the thread that I was expecting wink

Nope same spec, the only thing different was the colour, I really can't understand it either.

Black cars are more difficult to see in bad weather?

I always assumed red cars were more likely to have accidents.

Yeah I was always under the impression red cars are higher insurance risks, probably a load of rubbish but there you go.

I phoned up Admiral today as I had a query about my insurance. Whilst I was there I got a couple of cheeky quotes off them for other cars and for both they asked me the colour. Never had that beforeconfused

Identification purposes, never has been used to rate on for premiums.

I have just been over to swiftcover.com with registration numbers for a silver and black 2.0SE 2003 from Autotrader and they both came out exactly the same price to the penny.

Why would they need it if I didn't have a registration number though?

Ever tried filling in a form online and it says "error, please fill in the highlighted section"

Same thing it can't be skipped, needs the info regardless of whether you're buying the policy or not.
