I have just been over to swiftcover.com with registration numbers for a silver and black 2.0SE 2003 from Autotrader and they both came out exactly the same price to the penny.
I expect the o/p has fallen foul of some algorithm based on his age, postcode, car type and car colour and god knows what else - by changing one thing it affects the outcome. Evidently it isn't the same for you.

I am just getting quotes on my 1.6 Leon for the first time. It's black. It cost £700. I have 13 years no claims, have never had an accident or incident, a clean licence and 20 years experience. The o/h has 8 years no claims, 11 years experience and a clean licence. The Co-Op want about £600. LV want £500. I might paint the car.

EDIT - passed my test twenty years ago, not 17. Getting old!

Insurance is a lottery. I passed my test 19 years ago and have 13 years no claims and clean licence and I pay less than £700 for my 2010 Cayman S with all of the options listed as modifications.

OP - was this online or on the phone? Might be worth a call and some escalating until someone calls the underwriter - can't see that the risk increase would be that much higher?

You could try a good broker otherwise who could call the underwriter directly.

The Co-Op was £658 actually.

I just don't get it - my postcode is - like many in Sheffield - not good. But I always thought the main risk factor to do with postcodes was for it getting pinched - but that can't load the policy that much as the car is worth less than £1k.

Maybe it is the paint? What colour is your Porsche? smile

I was online at the time, I'm going to give a few insures a ring today and see what the damage will be.

That's what I reckon. Maybe it's some special pearl-lacquer shade that's really hard to come by or expensive to mix?

I bought a new (to me) car yesterday and prices for that model were completely random. Was the black one a few months older by any chance?

Car colour is not and has never been a rating factor.

Remember getting insurance for my first car.

Them; "And what colour is the vehicle sir?"

Me; "Err, green I guess."

Them; "Ah, you mean Tornado Grey."

Me; "Yes. Yes I do."

As far as I'm aware I've always been asked, and on comparison websites when I put the reg in, the colour is usually listed.

Just use a different insurer? Also, next time, before buying a car make sure you get an EXACT quote for that particular car before you buy it, I've noticed random models of certain cars will be more expensive than others for no foreseeable reason.
