As the title says - what's your preference? Do you enjoy a back road hoon in the daytime so you can see what's around you and any animal fodder that may run out in front of you, or do you prefer the late night runs where you can see oncoming headlight beams round corners and most roads are arguably quieter than in the daylight hours.

Personally I've always been a daytime driver, I like being able to see around me and see what I've just run over unlit items are to my sides, but recently I've found a bit of an interest in late night driving. Coming home from a friend's earlier I took the back roads home and it was absolutely fantastic. I cracked open a beer when I got back and I wish I hadn't done now as I want to go out for a drive again.

I prefer daytime driving. Night driving for me is to get somewhere i need to go. What i really hate is the twilight time between the two.

Night time and early dawn are fantastic times to be out driving! Ok, it's usually always work related and I am in the van, but I much prefer it to day driving.

All the do-gooders are tucked up in bed and I have the roads to myself. This makes me smile.

I'd vote for dawn as well. If it's a road I know well then night can be great but there are some that just wouldn't work at night. Most of my driving is during the day though... so what does that say about my driving habits?

Either so long as I'm driving. I just love being behind the wheel. driving

Long night drives feel like an adventure, love 'em.

Nighttime, and early hours are my personal preference!

Then again a quick blast on a Sunday evening 8pm onwards is always good! Sets you up for the week! biggrin

I've always liked night driving, but don't do much these days. Always enjoyed driving at night on quiet, unlit motorways too.

I enjoy both .....the difference can be nigh.....eerrmm, quite marked though.

Often used to head up to the beach in the early hours in the summer through Wales - roads quiet, watch the sunrise....quick coffee stop and then home for a sleep

Definitely day time. I know people go on about you being able to see headlights meaning you can go faster, but the fact is there is a lot less visibility so I drive slower.

I prefer day driving, apart from on motorways, I find driving on motorways at night quite relaxing.

Between 1am-4am in the morning is quiet bliss, i hit the country lane single tracks at this time.

I've never seen another car down them at this time and if they were coming the other way i'd see there headlights... Love it!

Night time for me.

I learnt to drive one winter taking a lesson per week after work which meant I was learning in the dark driving around country lanes as I lived out in the sticks. The first time I drove in the daylight was the day I took my test in the local town where surprisingly there was other traffic about. Things didn't get off to a good start when the first thing I did after switching on the engine was turning on the full beams (as one does when you've only ever driven at night), realising what I'd done and then muttering something about just checking to the examiner. Amazingly I didn't hit anything, and even more amazingly I passed. Still prefer driving in the dark though. smile

Like the poster above, I spent the majority of my driving lesson time in the dark & it was months before I'd even turned a wheel in the daytime.

An unlit motorway at night is a rare pleasure.

To be able to make sensible & swift progress on at night is smile

Blasting home with the roof down on a summer night has to be one of my favourite drives. That's the one time I feel like I pushed my car hard... the noise of it cooling down whilst stinking of rubber and oil on the drive when I got home was the best, too. Hot cars smell great... I'm weird....
