I'm selling my 735i E38 for £1100, if that counts? :P

Old 7ers are probably the best bet for that sort of money. Don't seem to be as prone to rust like older Mercs, they're generally pretty well specced, few have been chavved up and they're bloody nice cars.

I think some of this stuff shouldn't count as its cheap becuase its utterly ****ed. The X-Type for example, even they are not down to £995 yet. So we should restrict this to genuinely decent £1k cars you'd be happy to buy not cars that happen to be advertised for £1k.

If that makes sense hehe

What size engine is it?

Why? Several x types on eBay under a grand. Full valet, private plate, looks a 5 grand car straight away.

Following on from the 'Expensive looking normal cars?' thread, many missed the point a little, posting used cars; "you can buy this for £5k but it looks £50k" etc. So here's a challenge which you can browse the classifieds for.

What's the most expensive looking car you can buy for under a grand? Here's my best offering.

E46 323i - £1,000

Over to you...
That rear door doesn't look right

Because an X type for a grand will cost you a lot more than that by the time you have fixed all the problems.

That one's just over a grand. There's a clean T reg for £595 as well! Yes, I know it'll break down, but it's still rather nice.

Like what?

Only common probs i can think of with FWD petrol models (im assuming at 995 these wont be AWD or Diesel models) is their ability to eat O2 Sensors (bout £70 from jag), heater control panel packin up (bout £50 off ebay) and occasional signs of rust along sills.

He is thinking about uncommon problems caused by the ownership style of a 1k X Type owner.

I think that a decent E38 still looks very classy for not much cash, and that 166 has got to be worth a punt for less than £1000. The only thing that I'mnot convinced about on an otherwise beautiful design is the front which looks pinched.

Number plate aside that could easily pass as a £40k chelsea tractor. An old BMW or jag won't fool anyone.

Really? I have had quite a few people say they think my car is worth £6k+

It came with a private plate, and out in the real world you have to be a real anorak to know it is a pre facelift with amber indicators so that means it is an old cheap one hehe

Yup got a 2000 4l one of these, on a private plate, lots of people think it is worth much more than it cost. Even when people do find what it cost (£2300 Ebay biggrin) they are surprised how nice it is. And all the toys.

I agree, the front of a 166 is horrid.
