I know it's the standard PH response (and some of the cars listed on here trump it in perceived value) but the mk1 MX5 can look more expensive than it is. When I had one, which cost £1500, I had some guy come up to me and exclaim how cool it was, and how the pop up headlights must make it worth 'at least another 4 grand' hehe

This looks like a tidy 528i on Autotrader for £995. I know its a predictable choice, but id still take one of these over most of the other choices for a grand!

^ That Mercedes is lovely. Shame someone lowered it smash

Great idea though, most people would hane no idea how much that cost. The only worry is that it comes without an MOT, does that mean lots of expensive repairs are imminent?

I still want it!

I bought this for £995 back in 2005/6 and sold it on again eventually for £1,000 flat.

And the chrome strips removed off the arches etc. That would put me off buying it.

Number plate aside that could easily pass as a £40k chelsea tractor. An old BMW or jag won't fool anyone.
Yup got a 2000 4l one of these, on a private plate, lots of people think it is worth much more than it cost. Even when people do find what it cost (£2300 Ebay biggrin) they are surprised how nice it is. And all the toys.
Are these any good or they a world of trouble like a P38 range rover?

Not too bad.

Plastic electric fan blades can fail at higher mileages and allow the engine to overheat.

Transfer box can fail but can be replaced with more reliable alternatives from the jeep lineup

Heater blend doors can fail but plenty of after-market fixes available.

One of the reasons I bought the Jeep was my brother runs a mix of P38s & is on friendly terms with the boatyards welder!

I've now owned mine 18 months, bought with s/h & technically one previous owner as the guy I bought it from only had it for 2 months.
It is my daily driver & has just rolled over the 100K mark whilst we were in France for Le Mans Classic. So I've done 18K miles. In that time it has had 3 services, new brakes (discs & pads) & new front callipers which was an issue on early WJs, as they seize. Most were done under warranty mine wasn't! Also it has had, replacement ignition barrel, 2 new CV gaitors on the front & a new battery, Oh & 4 General AT tyres which were £390 fitted.
It runs very well, does 18.6MPG average over that period, everything works, including the dual climate & has a blinding 180W stereo with cassette & CD which was all standard.
I have a Chrysler independent local to me who is brilliant, Mid Kent Chrysler.

.
You know your GC then smile

Yes, the aircon blender flaps get stuck.
Also have seen speakers, the very small dash mounted ones, fail, some thing and nothing that though.

Pretty reliable as far as 4x4 's are.

yes It's quite possible you could get one for £1k that looks to be worth £1200.

A flat for £1000 sounds like a good deal, depending on your neighbours hehe

Thing is - most of us are not surprised you can pick all these up for £1k. Its the general public that know feck all about cars that think they cost loads.
